I have a budget of 5 or 600 dollars for a build to be used in my studio. I'm currently using an overclocked E1400 (has been decent for the money I paid for it) but after I get about 25 or better tracks in a song (I'm using Adobe Audition 3.0) I start getting stutters and it starts running really slow.

I need a machine that can handle 40 or more tracks with an effect or 2 on each one. (Not every track extends to the full length of the song)

I know ideally I should go with an i7 or w/e but I think I want to go for an amd build cause of my budget. I'd like to know some more hip opinions than my own... I haven't built any computers in a while and haven't priced anything lately....

parts and prices

great chip for around 80 bucks, or go with the phenom 550 am3 for about 15 bucks more

asus mobo:

picked up the combo proc and mobo for 177 bucks on new egg.

giving you alittle over 400 bucks left over to get 4 gig of ram, some hhd's or put in some of your exsisting parts, but this solution is stable, fast, cost effective, and an upgrade for your current hardware.

good start for ya, happy hunting

I'm thinking of going with that asus mobo and a Phenom II X4 920
4 gigs of OCZ 1066 ram (2-2 gig sticks)
a CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX 520W power supply (I'm assuming it will run everything ok)
and a 150GB Raptor Drive

the total is $567.95

anything I can find cheaper before I buy these?

Pretty good choices , the asus mobo has no on board video , i assume you have a video card .That corsair will be enough for that setup + plus a decent GPU .

affordable video solutions

sapphire makes a great video card in the 150 dollar range, you don't have to get it right away, wait and generate some cash later.

since the asus board supports crossfire, you might look into it. What your using the pc for doesn't really need anything high end in the video so maybe even the 4850 version which is a few bucks cheaper would be a great choice. You may have a video card you can slap in and get the job done great none the less.

the board has onboard audio, but if your streaming music you may want to look at audio cards

audio

ok I was looking at audio options on newegg and this board looks descent, not sure what sound system your currently using, but if your serious about the audio, most of your concern should be here. The pricest usually isn't the best, this card looks as though it can handle a good amount of what your doing and not leave you broke.

Thanks for the replies guys! I have a 2600 xt laying around somewhere that I'll pop in it for now. and for the sound card I'm using a motu traveler 8 channel interface with 8 more channels coming through the adat.

I'm also using the motu for output and everything so basically... it is my sound card.
