PCIe x1 in x16?

If I stick a PCIe x1 Firewire card into the second slot of a PCIe channel (with the first populated with a GTS 8800 graphics card), will I see a large performance drop?

The board is an Asus P9X79 WS

The second slot will take a 1x card. The first slot shouldn't change at all.
