This is a lot like gravitywell's initial build, I want this build to come in at $1600 after taxes and shipping. I have an Antec P180, D-Tek FuZion, MX 518 and a 500GB 3.5" SATA II from a previous build.

Looks good to me, although If I recall Noctua has a newer, improved version of the NH-D14 (as that model is getting aged) I may be wrong though.

Overall looks nice to me. I have an MX518 from Best Buy that is soooooooo old, best mouse I ever owned. Go Logitech, lol.

Do you have a Microcenter nearby?

Looks like a gaming build but no discrete Gpu?
Changes I'd make:
Wait till the end of the month and get a I5 4690k
Go with a WD 1tb hard drive they are just more reliable.
You really don't need a 650w Psu even if you do get a discrete Gpu but there isn't anything wrong with the one chosen.
Here's a couple of faster sticks for the same or slightly more money.

In the second paragraph I mention I bought a used R9 290X 4GB from eBay for cheap. You mean the NH-D15, the fan is 10mm larger at 150mm and it costs $20, I'm wondering if it will have clearance over my RAM?

edit: And yeah, I love that mouse more than any other I've tried :)

I don't necessarily have one nearby but know someone who is nearby one currently, I don't think that she'll want to buy the processor for me but I'll ask. What are the advantages of the 4690k over the 4670k, better base clocks or will it be better for overclocking?

Ooops sorry I missed that.

Supposedly both, they made slight changes to the chips for better cooling as well but it will remain to be seen, the only chips I've seen so far are engineering samples and they can sometimes be misleading.

I think I'll go with the G.Skill Sniper set I'll add them to the first post, thanks Mandrake4565. Can I pre-order the 4690k somewhere?

edit: I think I'll hold off on the CPU purchase until this is released.

edit2: About 1 week after the CPU is released I'll be able to drive down to a Microcenter location and look for a good CPU + Mobo combo deal, otherwise just pick up the CPU.

Flattered you used my initial build as reference :)

Check out Noctua's website for which motherboards and memory are compatible with it. You'll definitely need lower-profiled memory to go under that monolith.

Couple of things- The motherboard you have chosen is only 4 phase power. That's not a board I would trust for overclocking. Maybe look at an ASUS Z97-A instead, or a Gigabyte Z97UD3H.

Also, the NHD15 will clear taller memory than the NHD14 could due to the cut outs on the fin stacks, so that's not an issue. What you have to watch out for is the clearance of the first PCIE slot. The D15 will block the first slot on most motherboards, so use a board that has something other than a PCIEX16 full length slot as the first slot. The board you had chosen would have fit the D15, but I don't think it's the right board for you.

The video card I ordered on the 13th should arrive today, but we'll see, the FedEx tracking number doesn't have any info for it.

Also, PSU keeps changing in price (mostly after rebates, but I'm 0 for 10 in getting money back from Mfr. mail-in-rebates) so it would be advisable to find a good deal on the day that I order it rather than planning for it now.

I changed the memory to these Kingston modules (DDR3 1866): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104468

Theocnoob you're saying the UD3H has 5+ phase power? That sounds like a huge plus so I'll change the Z97X-SLi out for that one at only $10 more. Thanks a million!

I'll consider the NH-D15, are the performance benefits worth the extra $20? According to their website the NH-D14 clears the new mainboard and new RAM. Will update first post.

Nothing wrong with those DIMMs

OP- z97xud3h has 8 phase power.
So does ASUS Z97A and AFAIK ASRock Z97 Extreme 6. That is a very good board. 2x m.2 ports on it.

Agreed but for $7.00 more the OP can get Cl9's @ 2133 mhz or for $5.00 more Cl 10 2400's, is it going to make a huge difference, no but still worth it.

I'd say tighter timings DIMMs are better, but the ones I saw on Newegg at 2133 are all 1.65 volts with one being 1.6-1.65v.

Also, what does the "2N" mean at the end of one or two of the the timing specs mean? Like the earlier G.Skill Ripjaws set

I'm really liking these G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1866 @ 1.5v CL9 for $85

I would choose those over the Kingston Cl 10 sticks.

It's the Command Rate. For daily commuting it really doesn't matter but for benching, if you can get the ram to run stable at a C.R. of 1 it will perform memory related tasks quicker.

Here is a new PC Part Picker theoretical list, for the 4790K because there are a lot of batch numbers easily hitting 4.98+GHz. The video card and PSU are price stand-ins for what I really have the R9 290X Sapphire reference and a different PSU with rebates around the time of purchase.
