Im running 2x 6800's in sli, but my mobo only supports 8x on the boad for pci-e, i this gonna put a huge bottleneck on my system? It seems to run a little slow for it, I run 2142 in 1024x768 on med-high, I only give this bc i havent benchmarked it yet.

No, I went through to same issue, my 2 7600GT's were getting beat by 1 7950GS. I honestly dont feel SLI was worth the price.

To get back to the question, you will gain maybe ~5FPS with switching to a dual x16 mobo.

wow.....weak, i paid like 260 for these, in summer, and now a 140 7900 kicks there asses

Yes.

my thought is only go SLI if you buy the 2 top cards, why buy 2 lower cards that a single card can beat out at the same time of purchase.

you should be getting much better performance from 2x 6800's. Before switching to my GTO I could run 2142 high settings with 2x AA at 1280*1024 with a 6800GS. Your processor is probably holding you back.
