A quick question do am3 coolers work on am3+ coolers i am wondering because i would like to save some money and be able to overclock with another cooler?
Also any cpu coolers you recommend for a fx 4100 or a 4170

If your question is whether AM3 coolers will fit an AM3+ motherboard.... They will.

What cooler depends on a few things:

Case size -> Some coolers are too big for certain cases.
Budget -> You can spend anywhere from $40 to over $100 for an air cooler.

So; do let us know what case you're planning on using and what your budget is and we'll be able to recommend some units for you.

Dude, AMD haven't changed their retention mechanism since socket 754, so basically socket 754, 939, 940, AM2, AM3, AM3+ and FM1 will take exactly the same heatsinks.

My case

My case is a raidmax smilodon and im willing to pay about 40 for the cooler XD

^^^ As he said. The 212 EVO is one great little cooler. I use them on pretty much every system I build for other people + used in my media centre.

And in my opinion, the Thermalright True Spirit 120 is an even better choice than the Evo. But the take home price of the Evo will be less, but not by too much. With shipping, the TS120 would cost an extra $12.95, bringing the cost to $42.90. Slightly breaks your $40 ceiling, but not by much.

Really? This graph Hardware Secrests graph shows the 212 EVO eating it for breakfast.....

Pft, I was linking it.... Bunch of douchebags. It had their logo in there and everything. Just for that I'm posting a screenshot without a logo.

Nice pic you stole from them man!:shock::shock:

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

EDIT: I am about to put the TS120 on the testbed this time in from the rig. If Cooler Master wants to send me an EVO I would be glad to put it through it's paces. But going off the performance of the heatsink the TS120 was based from (Cogage True Spirit), it should handily wipe the floor with the EVO, since all I've read about the EVO is that it's a degree or so better than the 212+

Perhaps, it's just that the couple of direct comparisons I've seen show the 212 EVO coming out ahead. I suspect purely because of the direct contact from the heatpipes to the heatspreader. The pictures of the base of the True Spirit sure looks pretty though.... Problem is you can't look at it once fitted. It's like my old lapped PIPE101, love the look of the base but I couldn't see it when fitted.....
