A 2.66 Ghz 4-core 8-thread Nehalem processor is still going to be faster than a 2.6 Ghz 6-core Istanbul processor, but Nehalem will also draw more power. They are about equivalent in performance-per-watt:

That is an interesting comparison with performance per watt of Intel vs. AMD. What this graph suggests is that AMD processor core is not that hungry. Rather, it is their cache and memory controller that is really significant. In a highly parallel tasks, your processing power increases by 50% from 4 to 6 cores. Yet, your power does not.

Makes me wonder if I should under clock my cache and memory controller just to see if I can push to 4 GHz boot?
