Hello.

I'm planning to get a new motherboard sometime soon.

I am looking at either the CHV or the Sabertooth as you can see.

EDIT- I'm guessing the reason people aren't answering is because of how long/bulky this is, so.

Question: should I get sabertooth or Crosshair V Formula?

======================

It looks like they are pretty similar.

Are either of them better for overclocking AM3 CPUs? (1090T).
I'll want to be able to overclock a thuban as high as I can (without killing it) for benches. Also, can you get a better stable 24/7 overclock with one of them?

One thing I noticed is that the CHV has an 8-pin AND 4 pin power connector. The Sabertooth only has an 8-pin.

Also, the highest memory speed the Sabertooth supports is 1866Mhz. The CHV goes up to 2133Mhz.

A friend will sell this ram to me for $35:

(G.Skill Sniper 1866).

The CHV does not have 1866Mhz as one of the memory speeds. Would that be a problem?

I'll eventually be running Crossfire, but that won't be a problem on either of them.

Sorry for the long post, just want to see what you guys think of each of them.

Also one more question- does anyone know what socket Piledriver will be? I've seen both FM2 and AM3+, so i'm unsure. I'll probably skip BD entirely unless a revision comes out that is AM3+.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I would problem buy open-box on newegg unless people strongly oppose that, as I don't have that much to spend on comp stuff right now :D

Both boards are almost the same. If you want board for daily use like gaming etc then I see no point to pay more for CHV.
CHV has higher max memory multi and 1 more ( 4 pin ) power connector for cpu but in both cases you won't need it.
With some oc you can make up to 2400 on memory without this additional multi.
More power for cpu is needed maybe almost only when you are passing 7GHz and I saw 7GHz+ on Sabertooth too so I don't think it's big issue even for higher oc.
About memory multi ... 1866 is max official speed. 2133+ should be possible but without guarantee from Asus side so don't expect help from support above 1866.
I decided that I won't buy any ASUS board unless it's ROG series mainly because of support and almost the same issues in every more standard boards. I didn't have Sabertooth series so I don't want to comment them but reviews are ok at least for 990FX series.

Ok thanks.
I know I want the CHV formula more... so I think I'll end up getting that one.
Does it work/overclock ok with AM3 CPUs? (1090t)?

And, since 1866Mhz memory speed isn't listed, does that mean there won't be a memory multiplyer that will have the ram run at 1866? (if FSB is left at 200 of couse)

It isn't that big of a deal, just wondering.

And do you think it's fine to buy open-box on newegg?
The only thing I'm worried about is that the pictures of the open-box version have 'Images from RETAIL item. box content may vary'.

Thanks :)

I don't remember exactly but 1866 is for sure standard multi as its needed for FX series.

I found only this screenshot now but these are XMP and some more added profiles that board can use with some auto settings. I think that max on CHV was 2400.
Now I'm at work so I can't check what I have on my board but if I won't forget then I will post something later.

Edit:
2400 is max multi for CHV.
