Hi,

I have been out of it for a while. Building a new system now based on Supermicro X11DPG-QT with 2 Xeon Scalable Silver 4114.
Not a gamer - sorry. Not an overclocker - I am really, really sorry. :)

Checking out the current memory prices, my jaw dropped. The cheapest on Newegg is:
Kingston ValueRAM 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4 2400 RAM (Server Memory) ECC Reg DIMM (288-Pin) KVR24R17S8/8:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820242286

1. MEMORY: Is the above memory any good or should I avoid it?

2. CASE: Could you recommend a 11 PCI slot case that would take the above motherboard. (Supermicro cases are too expensive) It should be able to take at least 8 X 3.5"HDDs.
Keep in mind that this motherboard is extended to the right - please see the picture on Supermicro's website - link above. Normal motherboards end with the last rectangular silver block - the Ethernet/USB ports at the top-right. The serial port at the very top-right and the memory slots below it and then the power connectors below that is the area of the motherboard that is extra. (UPDATE 1 BELOW) I remember finding a big case like that years ago but can't find the link now.
Will post additional questions as they come.
Thank you for your help!

UPDATE 1:

I took a hi-rez picture of the motherboard from the pdf manual and superimposed it in Photoshop on top of a picture of a motherboard tray from a HPTX case. Most of the holes in the mobo matched with holes in the tray and the ports of the mobo matched with the opening for them. So the information I posted above is incorrect (strike through)

3. The motherboard requires 4 power connections. The standard 24-Pin then two 8-Pin and then a 4-Pin connector. My power supply does not have the 4-Pin one. Is this good enough fix?

I believe that would be considered HPTX?

Otherwise,

or

depending your budget are the only non custom units I can think of. I dont think I've seen an off the shelf 11 slot case before; but these cases fit HPTX; which is 15"x13.6" ; the mobo you chose is 15.12" x 13.2". I would thoroughly expect you will need to drill and tap motherboard offset posts to mount it properly; but thats not hard at all.

You looking to cure cancer or find ET with this thing?

What kind of total budget you working with? Do you have a line on the mb or cpus at a good price or just buying retail?
How much memory you getting? You can't hit the big numbers with regular RDIMMs, 1TB I think vs 2TB with the LRDIMMs so as long as your not spending a Honda Civic on ram you should be ok.

Thanks for the recommendations! Yes, I am pretty sure it was the "HPTX" part that I was trying to remember.
I ordered Lian Li PC-A76. Will post an update on how well it fits once I get the parts.

No, no. ET is trying to find me. I am going to use it to generate the stealth field around my house. :)

The budget is already completely blown. I paid retail for the processors, motherboard, case and heatsinks. I am getting the memory second hand and only 4 sticks per CPU because of budget constraints. The rest - PSU, GPU, storage - I have to scrap by from what I have laying around.
