First time posting, first time building as well, but I want some advice before I buy and do all this. I'm looking to make a computer that allows me to do simplistic school work, and is able to play current generation games at a good framerate at the same time.

:welcome: to the forums. What sticks out to me is the RAM, video card, case and PSU. I would increase the RAM to 4GB (2x2GB) and get a better video card, say like a HD 5770. Ditch the power supply and case combo. I recommend a Corsair 650 watt psu for future upgrades. Get mid size case with plenty of airflow like a Antec 902 or HAF 922 or something, not a micro ATX like you picked out. :)

Wouldn't I have to spend more? I forgot to mention that I'm on a budget. I don't plan on making future upgrades on the computer. I don't want to go any higher then this if its not needed =/. But I would like to know if I can get better stuff on this with the same or lower price.

OK sorry. What is your budget? Make sure you use Windows 7 64 bit. You can get the system builder's OEM Home Edition for like $105.

OK sorry. What is your budget?

I think the budget fits right here, 600 dollars. Can be a LITTLE higher or LITTLE lower.

And that also includes a fresh monitor too.

Edit: No need to be sorry its cool =D.

drop the WD cav blue for a cav black if its going to be your main drive.. cav green/blue are slower and better suited for storage.. or go with a samsung spinpoint f3..

Well everything for $600 will be a slight challenge. You will no doubt need to get a combo package where they knock the price down on a few items bought in a package deal. The OS will cost $100 and take away another $170 for a cheap monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers and that leaves $330 for the tower.

Here's a barebones kit for $200. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.328144 Includes tower, PSU, MB, CPU and RAM.

hard drive $75 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&AID=10446076&PID=3754110&SID=skim1132X509988

video card $100 HD 4850. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131162 I know it puts you over your budget but the video card is pretty important for gaming.

Hope that helped. :)

Edit: Oh and you still need a cpu cooler for the cpu. $30

Thanks, I'll check that out. The current build I'm thinking of right now is 671 dollars, :(

Is this video card better then the card you posted?

Edit: Is 450 psu enough for all of this?

You know I think the 4850 is a little better but I've seen reviews where one beats the other depending on what game they are testing. Either way you get about the same level of performance.

I don't think that power supply is going to be up for the job. It only has 21A on the 12v rail for 252 watts maximum output. I think that set up will draw about 230 watts without an overclock and with an overclock it's even higher. That's a little too close if you ask me. I think that you will need to get a better psu and I forgot about the DVD drive too.

It's getting a little more expensive.

I am seriously considering this as my final decision, I want to know any "issues" like not enough PSU power or incompatibility. I also want to know if I can get "better" stuff with the same or lower price.

It's $625.77 WITH shipping, keyboard, mice, speakers, pretty much a COMPLETE set.
It's going "have" a triple core processor with a chance of me overclocking it to quad. And a graphics card that is acceptable for gaming, and 2gb ram. I have the OS and dvd drive covered so I do not need them. Any thoughts?

It's actually like $599.89 without the shipping. But oh well, I gotta do the shipping. At least I don't have to pay tax I think. But ya, I really feel like considering this as my final decision.

Well that should handle your simplistic homework requirement and I like the CPU and mobo combination, nothing wrong with using a mATX mobo and the triple core is better than the dual. WD hard drive is a good choice too and the PSU has plenty on the 12v rail for your requirements. I'm not sure how the video card will perform and the case may not allow you to get enough airflow for overclocking though. EDIT: I didn't realize that you had the OS and DVD drive covered already or I wouldn't have suggested an inferior MB and CPU combo. I was trying to cram a whole system in your $600 price.

Aside from me saying you should definitely go with a PSU other than the cheapo that comes with that case, I would definitely recommend spending the extra $20 on the 4850. It's a way better card for only a little bit more $$.

EDIT: on the case/PSU talk, how about maybe doing this case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121071
Which is $30 shipped

And maybe this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031
Which is $40 shipped plus a $10 MIR

I'm not saying Coolermaster is the best choice, but it is certainly a better choice than what comes with that case. Don't take the chance of loosing your components to an ultra cheap PSU.

$15 more and a lot more peace of mind.

This is the 4850 I choosed, as I looked in that article, I guess the 4850 is SO much better then the 4670, I might as well go up and pay a little higher and be future proof.

And I'll picked what you suggested, this Hec case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121071
and this power supply

Edit
Actually, which graphics card is better?
