I have a hp pavilon a420a with 2gb ram and a athlon xp 2800+ cpu everything is pretty much stock except the cpu fan, the ram and i have a DVD-RW and a CD-RW oh yeah and a geforce fx 5500 running windows vista home basic ERROR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
You can't overclock properly because you are running an OEM system that lacks options in the BIOS.

+1. The mass produced computer manufacturers don't want you overclocking so they provied bioses that are very basic. You would need to move up to aftermarket enthusiast level parts in order to overclock.
 
Without pictures of the bios settings, we can do little to help. Most of the OEM rigs do not have menu to change CPU Frequency / Cpu Voltage / Ram speeds / Ram voltage and other items like that, which are in generally in the bios of a board not installed into an OEM rig.
