Why do you need a bios update, you can try compaq's website if you know what was the name of the desktop that came with it, but they don't update nearly as often as other board makers such as Abit, Asus or DFi.

I do not know the model of the Compaq computer. Identifing the product is difficult. Model number or Service Tag information is not available on the case (Service Tag or serial number is also missing in Compaq BIOS). HP ActiveX control fails to detect the computer.

The case appears to be one of or similar to an 8000 series Compaq case. The inside components do not seem to corispond to the components that a Compaq 8000 series computer should have. The case also has an Intel Pentium 4 sticker on the front; the computer has a Socket A motherboard with an Athlon XP.

I do not believe the Compaq machine to be a member to the Compaq 8000 series.

It appears as if the components of an older Compaq computer was sold with a newer Compaq case.
 
A typo existed int the initial post to this thread:

The label on the motherboard "QUICK SILVER2-CMT" should have been "QUIK SILVER2-CMT".

It has now been fixed.
 
I just did a search on the corrected name and came up with a couple of people selling a "Compaq" mobo. Send them an e-mail, compaq will probably know which desktops used that mobo.

I am waiting for a response to emails.

Compaq may know which desktop computers use the relevant motherboard, but tend to not disclose that information (I tried the legal approaches with exception to supeena (sp?)).

The Mobo "QUIK SILVER2-CMT" Is made by "FIC" for Compaq. Its an FIC oem mobo and FIC will not give any help at all.

HP/Compaq claim that they cant find any information on technical specs like header pin-outs (front panel, usb, etc.)

Also on the FRN_PNL (front panel) Header the Pin marked RPW_SW is the (Power Switch), (normally this is marked pw_sw) I had found some fic socket A manuals that said rpw_sw is (REMOTE POWER) I believed it and have been searching for days for information, anyway today I got around to fixing up a switch and rpw_sw is indeed the pw_sw (power switch) not remote power.


I will take a pic after the front panel header is finished
