Hi, now a days I've
become pretty
concerned with cpu
cooling. I have four
queries related to that.
1) My bios shows
different cpu
temperature and other
windows applications
like Intel Desktop
Utilities, HW Monitor
and others show
something different
(although all Windows
applications show the
same reading, the
difference is between
the bios reading and
app reading). My bios
shows processor, PCH,
Memory and VR temps.
I immideatly booted up
and noted tyhe temps
from speedfan and
there was about 12C
(bios showing 53C and
speedfan and other
apps showing 41C).
The bios reports other
component's
temperature correctly,
it's only the cpu temp
that's making a
difference. I suspect
thats because I
removed the cpu heat
sink recently and
forgot to tighten up
the screws beforre
turning on the pc. But
then I immideatly
turned off my pc,
tightened the heat sink
and everything became
normal. the pc specs
are mentioned below.
2) This is not re;ated
to cpu cooling, but its
making me go mad.
Whenever I disable the
PS2 port from the bios
and restart my pc, the
pc gets syuck on a
black screen with a
blinking cursof for a
about 10-15 s and then
windows starts
normally. I want to
disable the PS2 to
prevent unnecessary
drivers fro being loaded
up.
3) I want to make a
cardboard duct for the
cpu cooler to bring the
cold air from outside of
the cabinet directly to
thr cp[u cooler instead
of the hot air
recirculated. I've found
a good article on the
topic here
http://

/the-effecti ... u-
cooling/
So, any suggestions on
the topic, as in for duct
placement, tappering,
fan placement, or
anything else?
4) Continuing my
likelyness of cpu
cooling, I want to know
of any way of running
the cpu cooler fan at
full speeds all the time,
irrepective of the
temps. I have no
concerns for the noise.
Are there any pros and
cons of this?
Pc specs:
CPU: intel core i3 2100
3.1GHz
Mobo: Intel DH61WW
CPU cooler: Stock
RAM: 2x2GB Dual
channel DDR3
GPU: MSI Nvidia 8400GS
PSU: Zebronics 450W

Most people use hwmonitor and watch the temps under core temps for a reliable temp for the cpu. Also, i think the reason behind the different temp readings is because some monitor the socket temp while others monitor the core temps ( could be wrong ). Also I would'nt worry about forcing the cpu fan to spin at full speed, your motherboard usually does a good job of managing this. I would run prime95 and watch your temps with hwmonitor ( core temps) and whatever that shows after about 20 mins is probably a good indicator of how hot your cpu is getting.

The case is a cheap one but the good wiring has provided a good space for the airflow. Its just that I live in a very hot part of India ant the temperstures in summers reach around 40C and my pc becimes really really hot. Sp the duct and the cpu fan running at full speed are just some preventive measures. Its better to be cool and noisy than to be fried and sorry.

The problem is you'll be taking the warm room air temp and blowing it onto your CPU. IMO, that's not going to do anything. So long as the overall airflow is good, that's all you can do. Ideally, if possible, a room air conditioner to lower the room temp.
