with the E8400 being so hard to get hold of in the UK i have seen the E8200 for sale

what do you guys think of the E8200 and will it be a good overclocker on the GA-p35-DS3P

It's really only the 8x multiplier that makes them "less attractive" -- so it comes down to your motherboard. In order to hit the same 3.6Ghz as your current E6600, your board will need to sustain 450FSB.

And essentially all of the 45nm Penryn parts have a noticable FSB wall, typically starting somewhere in the mid 400's to the low 500's depending on exactly how many tweaking options are available in your system (GTL and VTT adjustments being the primary things you need.)

most p35's can do 475 easy some can do 500 easy
most of the wolfys can do higher fsb, but not all can
I would go for a e3110 myself they seem to be generally better fsb clockers and there's a 9 multi anyway.
all of the e82's i seen around here are $180 anyway so its not like your saving a huge bundle over a 9 multi chip, they are around $210 average now.

what you reckon guys

q9300 or e8400

i mainly do gaming and i dont no which one to get

motherboard wil be a p5k-e wifi

You'd be lucky to get 3.4Ghz out of the Q9300 :( whereas the E8400 could probably do 3.6Ghz on stock voltage without blinking.

For apps that do not take advantage of quad cores (basically every game in existance right now) you'll get far more use out of the E8400. If you ever start doing encoding, photo editing or 3D rendering work, the quad would likely do better.

do you rate the asus commando board i have been offered one for £60

will it get the max out of a e8400

Not sure the conversion of pounds to American dollars, and I'm not too familiar with the Asus boards to be completely honest. I can tell you that my Abit IP35-E easily gets my E8400 to 4.0Ghz. The cost of this board was $90 before the MIR and $70 after MIR.

Asus Commando is one of the sweetest boards for a high FSB. It breaks 600+ continually on good cooling. Strange as it may seem, the E8200 continually hits 4GHz P95 stable with lower voltage then both the E8400 and E8500.

is there any proof of that m8 like any reviews or screenshots?

Yea, here you go, and all on air too. Most E3110s take what, 1.3 volts to get there? These are the only E8200 retail chips I've seen, so if you have results that argue against 4GHz with less volts then the E3110, E8400, or E8500, then please post them.
