Hi guys, I remember looking at this game a while ago. I am trying to decide if I should sign up. Can you guy help understand what the game is about? Is it like Freelancer? I mean as a story line and in game play (flying around different planets and galaxies)?

Mike

Freelancer is a hands on game, this is space dice-rolling(like most mmos, sadly) with a real-time still tree(unlike most mmos, sadly).

There's a free trial.

It's very much like a freelancer as far as the enviroment goes.

However, the controls are all clicking rather than first person flying as in Freelancer.

If you want, I can get you a longer than usual free trial ?

I would like to give it a try. The screenshots look awsome!

May I get the longer free trial jhanby? I would like to invest some time into it this weekend =)

Sure, PM me your email address and I'll get an invite sent over to you :)

Don't know if you've figured it out yet but if you buy a trial account a plex you essentially get the time for free because of the buddy program. In addition to the extended trial time, you actually get MORE time than usual :)

Example

Account 1 has 5 days remaining. Sends buddy trial to:
Buddy Account 2, who plays the trial for 4 days and decides he wants to play for sure.

Account 1 has 1 day remaining, and buys (Or owns) a Pilot License Extension (PLEX) which, when activated adds 30 days of game time to your account, and can be bought with in game currency.

Account 1 sends the PLEX (Or the money required for a plex) to Buddy Account 2

Buddy Account 2 activates the PLEX, and receives 30 days of game time on top of the remaining trial time, and fully unlocks the game. A few skillbooks, and therefore the ships and all ships requiring that skill as a prerequisite will be unlocked for training.

Account 1 sends an E-Mail to account support at CCP because the PLEX activation doesn't automatically add time to Account 1 (Buddy account becoming full account) but it IS supported officially (I've done it 3 times)

Account 1 gets credited with 30 days for a buddy upping to a full game after a CCP rep reads the email and gets you sorted. I'd not risk doing it with 1 day left :p

Hahaha, Thanks a lot for the tip. I hadn't figured this one out yet. Just getting used to the game. I wouldn't mind paying for it though. The graphics are awsome. I'll see how I like it for few weeks and then decide. So far I am liking it a lot though =)

That's cool :) Once you get to the point in game where you want to not pay real money, it costs between 320 and 370 million for 30 days of game time, depending on the market.

The cool thing is, CCP (the developer) actively supports you buying them for real money ($30 for 2 i believe) and exchanging them into in game items to sell :p So essentially, with that exchange rate we can put a dollar amount to ships and commodities in game :p

For example, following a simple 700,000,000 ISK = $30 my Golem is worth at least $60 :p

You could typically put value on items ingame. Ebay was the easiest to tell with isk what an account was truely worth. Its just more legit now this way ;)

hey guys just started a corp, its mainly for newer players, the HQ is at teh gallente noob station, there is plenty of room for some senior members, i have plenty of ISK and assets to back up anything you want to do so feel free to join

Arcknights is the corp name

One of the MMO companies that actually publish there hardware they use and do so proudly!

There upgrades to the server in the past have been impressive and still looks like they are keeping up to it.

512Gb of DDR3 RAM ! :O

Jesus christ.

What the 36x 600Gig SAS drives or 9x 300Gigs SSD's don't set off anything either? :p

Some hardware specs: (AKA Tech Porn)

Each server has:

2 x 8 Core Intel x7560 processors at 2.26GHz

9 x 300 GB SSD's drives RAID 5 attached via IBM V7000
36 x 600 GB SAS drives RAID 10 attached via IBM V7000

The whole system has:

Over 1TB of RAM
64 logical processors (w/ hyper-threading enabled)
32Gb/s of storage throughput capacity
200,000 IOPS capacity
