Hey,so my laptop is not sufficient any more as I started playing Guild Wars 2 so I thought I would build one,I am on a budget and can't be spending too much.If you think some of these parts are overkill please tell me so,I can then get cheaper parts.

This is the PC I'm using http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Docume...

The parts I want to upgrade to are as follows:

Would these parts work together? Can I order them?

These are the parts so you don't have to go to the links:
Processor:INTEL Core i3 (3240) 3.4GHz Dual Core Processor
Motherboard:MSI B75MA-P45
Graphics card:GeForce GTX 660 XLR8 Edition OC
RAM:KINGSTON ValueRAM - Memory - 4 GB
Power:COOLER MASTER GX Lite 500W

-Switch to a Corsair CX500 power supply
-Get a quad core CPU. It can be a cheap quad core, but get a quad core. Even if it's an AMD FX quad for about a hundred bucks
-Get at least 8GB of RAM. Nobody uses 4GB any more

All your links are broken.

Also, if you list a budget and the components you need, then people can help you pick out parts easier.

Ok,so I have a complete PC and these are the specs.

Motherboard=M2N68-LA (Narra3)
Processor=AMD Phenom X4 9500
Memory=3GB
Video graphics=NVIDIA GeForce 8400
Hard drive=500 GB(Rotational Speed: 7200 RPM)
CD/DVD disc drive=SuperMulti 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive
Memory Card Reader=15-in-1 multimedia card reader
Computer Case=
Height: 38.7 cm (15.23 inches)
Width: 17.5 cm (6.89 inches)
Length: 41.4 cm (16.29 inches)
Power Supply=300W

My budget would probably be about 500 as I am still in school(Selling my PS3 to get money + have some saved)

From my knowledge,I think I could hold on to the case, hard drive,cd drive and memory card reader.

I would then need to upgrade the motherboard, processor, graphics card, more RAM and I would also need a bigger power supply.

I would then also buy a monitor but I can handle that much myself :p

You can't get a motherboard, processor, graphics card, RAM, power supply and monitor for $500 and make it a meaningful upgrade from what you already have. There's no way. Not enough money.
You're going to have to look into used parts. Maybe get an i5 off-lease and upgrade the PSU/GPU

I meant 500 without the monitor.

I have updated my list and here it is:

GPU:pNY GeForce GTX 660 XLR8 Edition OC
PSU:CORSAIR CX600 80 PLUS Bronze PC Power Supply
Processor:AMD FX-4300 - 3.8 GHz
Mobo:ASRock A75M-HVS
RAM:KINGSTON HyperX blu Red Series - Memory - 8 GB

Would this work good? For running games like Guild wars 2 on a nice setting.

That motherboard is not for that cpu. You want something like this motherboard, though not necessarily this specific motherboard.
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157281

You need a socket AM3+ motherboard for an FX cpu.
Otherwise looks good. Just get the cheapest GTX660 you can get. It doesn't matter if its overclocked or not you can overclock it yourself easily. So change the motherboard to an AM3+ board and you should be off to the races. If Knufire shows up to this thread he'll be able to give you a better specific partslist. Can you list the website of the place where you'll be buying your parts please?

By the way, you have to reinstall windows when you build your new PC. Don't just take the hard drive out of the old PC and stick it in the new one with windows already installed on it.

Looking at dabs.ie. What do experts think about these?

PS: it is possible to save something by going for lower quality components...

Thanks for the replies.
I'm getting my parts off this website : http://www.pixmania.ie
Can I still use the same hard drive if I wipe it and install Win 7?
What power supply would I need,is 600W overkill?

Here is my updated parts list:
GPU:pNY GeForce GTX 660 XLR8 Edition OC (It's cheapest GTX660 they have) =170
Power:CORSAIR CX500 80 PLUS Bronze PC Power Supply - 500 W =62
Processor:AMD FX-4300 - 3.8 GHz - Socket AM3+ =115
RAM:KINGSTON HyperX blu Red Series - Memory - 8 GB =55
Mobo:ASROCK 970 Extreme3 - Socket AM3+ =75

Total price:477+monitor(about 100)

If I were to buy these parts, would everything work good together(with no bottleneck as they call it)?

Also, could I maybe exchange something to a cheaper option?(I'm not looking for the best gaming setup you can possibly get, just something that will play games like Guild Wars 2 at a decent quality with no lag)

Ok,so I think i finally have it figured out :D

List:
GPU:SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition - 2 GB GDDR5 - PCI-Express 3.0
RAM:KINGSTON HyperX blu Red Series - Memory - 8 GB - DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 CL10
MOBO:ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 (Socket AM3+/AMD 970/SB950/DDR3/S-ATA 600/ATX)
Processor:AMD FX 4350 - 4.2 GHz - Socket AM3+
Power:CORSAIR CX500 80 PLUS Bronze PC Power Supply - 500 W

Would everything work together?
Are these parts in the same categories roughly?(no bottlenecking)

That's over €500 :D

BTW, I think it's OK. The 7870 is a nice card to play Guild Wars 2 and that CPU should not hamper excessively the performance (see http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/guild-wars-2-performance-benchmark,3268.html).

However, I'd wait for someone with more expertise on AMD CPUs...

Thanks for that list Xeon, that's what I was looking into myself.
I agree with Hippogriff though,is 600W not too much?

probably, but for the extra 15 euro I think it's a good buy, especially if you decided to do some overclocking
You could drop back to the 430w or a 500w if you like

IMHO, the CX500 is not worth the price. Or you go for a CX430 (that limits your future OC and you'll be able to use only one card), or spend 15€ for a CX600.

Depends on your budget, that seems to not be so rigid :)

Well the 970 boards are not xfire, need to move to a 990 board.
I still like the 600 PSU for peace of mind.
If it were substantially more money then I'd think about it

Edit, I guess you could xfire on the 970, but @ 4x pcie2.0 on the second lane I wouldn't recommend it
