First system I've ever built - almost done, how does it look?

Going to be using this for gaming, and I've never overclocked anything before but I will probably do light-moderate overclocking in the future... so I'm not really looking for the best overclocking part. Remember I'm very new to this so make sure I'm not forgetting something or missing something obvious (or not so obvious).

Ok thanks for your time, all comments are appreciated :D

The system looks great, although I would add a DVD drive and upgrade the speakers to the Logitech Z560s. You'll love these speakers, they kick for a good price. You have a good sound card in there so don't waste it on low grade speakers.

Your going to want:

1. At least one case fan (more the merrier)
2. A HSF(Heatsink fan) for the cpu

And also you dont need to buy cables because they will come with your mobo, however rounded cables do offer more airflow than just the regular ones that will come with your mobo.

Ok thanks for the advice - may upgrade the speakers, and I'm not sure if I'm going to take the DVD player out of this system and put it in the new one or just buy another one.

*Edit: The case comes with 6 case fans I believe :)

And doesn't the processor that I got (retail) come with a HSF?

I'd go with the MSI 4400 or VisionTek 4600... that case has more than enough venalation....Speakers I'd go with Altec Lansing 4100LA, ATP4, or 641's......OEM version OS, good, good...............You could use the ribbon cables and fold them underneath the motherboard.....hmmm......Flat panel, I would go with Phillips Brilliance 180P or Compaq TFT7020, see if you can find a local electronics place where you can compare these three(your decision completely,)......Retail processor, comes with its own inadequate HS/F,(I'd go Alpha PAL8942/Panaflo H1A/L1A for the time being,). Looks Good.

Oh those cursed words, they burn my ears.

Sorry, I'm ranting again...
I'd HIGHLY recommend spending the extra money on a heatsink with a good reputation / noise-to-performance ratio / performance rating

I've heard ALOT of praise for the Zalman CNPS6500 blah blah blah (why do they have to make the names of the these things so freakin' long...)

lol @ captain

Sup Godstar :)

Anyways, so you think I should change to the OEM version of the CPU that doesn't come with the HSF, and buy a separate HSF?

Any recommendations for a good HSF?

"OEM" means second hand. DO NOT GET THIS!!!. A stock heatsink is OK, but since you are planning to OC, get something better. (Like I said before, Alpha PAL8942 with PanaFlo H1A 80mm)

Not a major OCer, and I don't plan on OC'ing right when I get it either... so, I might just use the stock fan until I want to OC it, and then I'd order a new HSF.

Did you have a chance to take a look at those monitors I mentioned? Also, I found this place, You can order the case(cheaper, I might add, it also adds a Firewire port to the front bezel). They'll install windows, neons, fans, floppy's, etc. so you don't have to.

Nope didn't check out those monitors yet but I will soon.

hmm and I can't find the SF-201 case on that website.

At Directron down at the bottom it says it's on sale for $149.99.

Also, sorry I made a mistake the monitor I posted is a flat screen not flat panel :( Hehe, 19" Flat Panels aren't exactly in my budget.

Ohhhhhh, ok. I would compare it with a ViewSonic E90fmb, Samsung 955DF, Sony Multiscan G410R, Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900u, or NEC's AccuSync 95F, but I would seriously consider a Hitachi CM715. Good Luck! Oh, there on sale now? Hmm, well if you need that Firewire port, you know where to go then.:)

Um, I hope you were joking when you said this........THEY ARE NOT SECOND HAND.

THey just dont come with the fancy packaging, adn stock HSF. Which means a cheaper price for you! :D

Ok I'll check out the monitors... think I'll just go with the retail processor and use the stock HSF until I plan on overclocking too, unless the OEM version is a lot cheaper, which in that case I'll just go with the OEM and get a separate HSF.

The OEM is $20 less, but I'll just go with the retail for now and mess around with the HSF sometime down the road.

For the video card, you're saying that I shouldn't go with LeadTek since my case already has sufficient cooling, so I don't need the extra cooling that the LeadTek card has? So the two other cards you recommended have better performance but not as good of cooling, which I don't necessarily need?
