Newegg is having a sale (don't tell anyone ;)) on 2*8 2400 mhz G.SKILL RAM.

Memory Model F3-2400C11D-16GXM

My build is going to use an ASRock X79 Extreme6 mobo.

Neither G.Skill not ASRock lists the other manufacturer's component in their official support lists. G.SKILL does list the Z87 Extreme6 as compatible.

A) Have any of you used this combination and has success or problems,

B) What risks would I be taking in using this ram? Would the computer just not boot up or would I fry the mobo as well?

It will work. Just because it is not listed as supported, doesn't mean it won't work. I'd be looking at ram that ran at 1.5 volts rather than 1.65.

Does it drop performance or reliability?

Newegg also has a sale on this: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Memory Model BLS2K8G3D18ADS3

The Crucial memory runs at 1.5v.

You risk overvolting your dimms. Stick with 1.5. Do you really need 16 gigs of ram?

You can use 1.65V without any problems on any new platform. 1.5V is only basic intel specification for every chipset but it doesn't mean that higher voltage isn't safe. You don't think that all available desktop memory manufacturers would sell something that isn't safe and didn't pass long hours of tests.

F3-2400C11D-16GXM is dual channel kit but if you get 2 of them then shouldn't be any issue to run quad channel on the X79 boards. These kits are new ( maybe 2-3 months on the market ) so used IC should be similar in every kit.
In this case you will get 32GB what is probably too much. Maybe check if 2x4GB or 4x4GB kits aren't in good prices. Having X79 platform you probably wish to use quad channel memory. RipjawsZ are pretty good.

The same RipjawsX but 4x4GB cost some more:

I was testing this ARES 2400 c11 kit but in 2x4GB , 4x4GB should be on the same chips:

Actually all these 3 kits are probably on the same memory chips.
