Hello,
I have a Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P motherboard and two 2500+ Bartons.
When I boot, it is showing as a 1900+ and there is no indication that there are even two processors. I just realized that the bartons run at 166fsb and the motherboard is only letting me set the front side bus at 133mhz.
Is there some kind of bios update or pin-mod that I can do to run them at the proper speed? Also, there is no indication that there are 2 processors at POST. The only indication is that there are 2 temperatures in the bios health monitor.

Thanks for the help

You need to do the L5 mod if you haven't already as shown here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=91425

I have no clue if your board supports overclocking. Some people have reached 166+fsb with dualie MPX boards, but the chipset DOES NOT lock the PCI bus, so hope your PCI cards, AGP cards, and mainly your hard drives and optical drives can handle this. Your safest bet to run the CPUs at their stock speed or overclock is to pin modify the multi. A guide to this and pin modding the vcore are shown here: http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html

Thanks for that information. 2nd site is very interesting; I didn't know that you could do so many different pin mods.
What settings do you recommend for the pin mods to get the 2500+ 333fsb bartons to run at proper speeds?

Thanks again

133*14 is about as close as you can get to the stock clock. It goes over a little bit but should run fine at the stock voltage which is 1.65 and you may be able to go lower since the FSB is lower.

Thanks for the response. I will try the mod right after I figure out this one last issue.
Why is the motherboard saying: 1 CPU(s) even though I have both installed? I have tried switching them and running them individually on slots 1 and 2, and I always get the same results.
Is this normal? Shouldn't it be saying 2 CPU(s) ?

Thanks again for the help

The last L5 bridge must be closed for XP processors to work as MPs
The XP L5 bridges look like this |:::
The MP L5 bridges look like this |::|

If possible I would try to get mobiles instead of the desktop XPs
The mobiles already have the last L5 bridge closed
And your XPs may have the multiplier locked so you might be stuck at 11x

I scanned the L5 bridges of Standard XPs, Mobile XPs, and MPs

Oh, so the reason I can only use one processor is because the L5 bridge is locked? Makes sense. So I have to connect the bridges on both of them to use them?

Could someone perhaps tell me if either one of these has the multi locked? Here are the model / steppings for them:

I do not remember what the production date is after which they are locked?

Thanks for all this great help from everyone :santa:

EDIT: Another thing I noticed is that on one of the processors, the bridges are seperated much further apart. Is this relevant at all? Or do I just have to make a longer connections for the trace? Thank you

I think the lower one is locked. 0340 seems to be the cutoff point.

Yeah I have verified this, and I am currently replacing it with an older un-locked one.

Also, I have tried the pin mod and it WORKS GREAT! When the system boots up, it now says AMD AthlonMP 2500+ (instead of AthlonXP 1900+)

Once I get the second processor I will mod it to MP and do the pin mod on the 2nd slot and see if it boots saying MP 2500+ 2 CPU(s).

Once again thanks for the help, everything is slowly coming together and working out.

Everything is running great.

The locked processor was replaced with an unlockable one, and the multi was raised to 14x133 using the pin mods. Everything is running smooth now and the mobo even registers the CPU's as two AthlonMP 2500+'s.
