anyone have any word on socket am3 mini itx motherboards that do not have on board video

looking to build a small form factor compooter for a friend

but she wants a video card not on board video:comp:

thank-you

It has to be ITX not mATX? There could be a problem finding one without on-board video. Just because it has on-board video doesn't mean you have to use it ...

why is it crazy?

mini-itx is a exploding market
a-lot of gamers do not like big cases , and besides it can handle most games
quite a few people are running these boards in sff machines
even some ati 5970`s fit quite well in a few sff cases

( i lan gaming conventions )

it is a 1366 and 1156 socket together

dual i7 socket

the only bummer is -- it will only boot with a core i7 proc in it

core i5 proc results in a no boot

( it needs a bios update to allow i5 processor booting )

Does your friend realize that the GX chipset, which includes on-board graphics, is cheaper than the X and FX chipsets of the same series, which don't have an IGP?

Since money is the only reason I can come up with for excluding a board with on-board graphics - and since the on-board graphics are actually cheaper then the "normal" chipsets - then insisting on a non-graphic chipset is crazy. There is no logic, rhyme, or reason behind such a position and that to me is what "crazy" means ...

No it is not dual socket, there is no such thing ,not with 1366 and 1156 anyway. There are i7 processors that are socket 1366 and there are i7 proccesors that are socket 1156 , i5 and i3 are all socket 1156.

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg

Pros: It lets me put a core i7 into a mini-itx case.
Cons: The manual doesn't explain the bios settings.
It won't let my USB keyboard get into the bios. I have to plug in a PS2 keyboard to do that.
The tweaking software requires .net 2.0, and I can't find a way to get it on Windows 7 64-bit.
I wish it had a firewire port in the back.
It only has 3 SATA ports.

Pros: can't think of any other LGA1156 Mini ITX board
seems to work great once you get around bios issues.
Cons: not your typical bios ui
having bios settings save issue as others noted
Other Thoughts: Specs: Core i5 650, 300W shuttle power supply, Shuttle KPC case, 4GB GSkill Ripjaw PC3 10666, WD "Green" 1TB drive, HIS Radeon 5770. Dynatran cooler

mild overclock to 3.5GHz

I built this system to be a HTPC with capable gaming at 1920x1080. Also needed it to have as low as possible current draw.. Everything seems to work fine once I got around the bios issues.. I found that my settings wouldn't save if I hit escape and save "OK".. but it seems to save when i hit F10 before exiting..The bios seemed to want to choose some random settings for me as well at times so make sure you set everything and hit F10... I eventially managed to get the settings i wanted in there.. the system is stable and I'm happy I don't have to mess with the worst bios known to man!

This user purchased this item from Newegg

Pros: - P55 in an ITX form factor
- Good board layout
- Power consumption is as low any mATX board out there
Cons: - The English is poor in the BIOS and manual
- The manual doesn't do a good job of explaining the BIOS functionality
- The BIOS is very buggy
Other Thoughts: I'm running this board with a Core i5 750. My main complaint is the BIOS. The first time I change from IDE to AHCI, I get gibberish on the top of my screen when it POSTs, it reboots, and all settings are lost. It usually sticks the second or third time.

Also, if I change settings in some combinations (ie. Enable SpeedStep, Enable Turbo Boost, Enable C-State), when it POSTs again, it just decides to overclock my processor! It set the base voltage to 1.25V and BCLK to 166, putting the processor at 3.33GHz. I had some major heat/power issues as a result. It also messed up my DRAM settings. It wouldn't let me change the BCLK and I couldn't fix some of the DRAM settings, so I had to reset the CMOS every time this happened. Not cool.

Since this board is more or less one-of-a-kind, I can't knock it too much. When the BIOS settings are right, it runs okay. I've got a powerhouse of a machine inside a tiny case. I don't know if I'll buy from DFI again though.

That's the only relevant info i see about socket type and there is NOTHING about 1366 I see.

There is actually an AM3 mini-ITX motherboard: Sapphire IPC-AM3DD785G (Not sure about US or CA availability, though.)
Seems to support the Phenom II X6s too, since the latest BIOS includes AGESA 3.7.0.0. Official numbers state 65W TDP support, but there's a PDF on Sapphire's website stating support for up to 125W TDP CPUs, as long as there is adequate cooling. I'm planning on getting this board myself, along with an X6 1055T (will probably undervolt it a bit though).

You must have missed the crazy part of the requirement - that the board not have on-board video.
Dumbest thing I ever heard bar none.

Unlike Intel, AMD won't demand more money for not using the video.

PS
There are several AMD ITX boards on Newegg as well ...

Oh. Yes, I missed that. Well, in that case, there's really only the DFI P55-T36 board. I'd still go for the Sapphire AM3 board and just disable the on-board video. Sure, I'll end up with a pair of useless I/O ports, but who really uses 10+ USB ports anyway?

EDIT: The Sapphire board is the only one supporting AM3 and Phenom II X6, I think; all of the other ones I've seen are AM2 or AM2+.
