Hi Awl: I am losing hair trying to decide what memory this motherboard can use. I Dled the Asus QVL chart and went blind trying to decipher it as well.
My first problem is because I am awaiting the cpu as a present, I do not know if I am getting a Phenom or a bulldozer chip. Is the memory the same for these two or not? I am looking for 8GB and thought 1600 may be more overclockable if I can find it.
I always liked Gskill but going to their website I do not see anything listed at all for this motherboard. I cant believe it is this difficult, but.. I do not wish to get burned either. I also was trying to stay in the $50-60 price range. Any advice would be appreciated or if some people could post what they are running.

I found a few that are apparently compatible.

thanks to everyone.

The ram choice those is not CPU dependent really. You get the QVL list, as you already have, from the MOTHERBOARD's site. But like RGone said, just about any will work.

Rgone: Thank you. However I was looking for memory that definatly would work, not that it may work. I have read to many posts of people with wierd problems from memory not working properly. I also need 8 gig of memory.

I will say this before I show the 3 sets of 8 gig ram by Gskill that are shown on the QVL from ASUS and that is that just because it has been tested is no guarantee that it will work for you. I have seen ram have the same part number but not work.

But anyway just "looking" at the QVL list for that mobo are shown three Gskill 8 gig kits.

G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH(XMP) 8GB(2 x 4GB) DS - - 7-8-7-24 1.6V ● ● ●
G.SKILL F3-12800CL8D-8GBECO(XMP) 8GB(2 x 4GB) DS - - 8-8-8-24 XMP 1.35V ● ●
G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL(XMP) 8GB(2 x 4GB) DS - - 9-9-9-24 1.5V ● ● ●

Thank you both. This all is confusing. I do appreciate the help. I see memory prices from $50-over $100 for 8gb and the stats barely look any different, then I see QVL charts for R2 which I presume is the bulldozer chip? ANd this led to more confusion. Finally as I said I read numerous people saying corsair memory was not working well on this motherboard and I didnt dare just go out and buy any old memory and get burned.
I will try for one of those Gskills and keep my fingers crossed.

Rgone: thank you again. That memory is getting a bit pricey for me, especially when someday I plan to add another 8 gig. I like your idea of heat spreader height however.
I stumbled upon this chart that seems very useful.http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/cpu/venomous-x/memory_compatibly.html
I see the ripjaw series will fit according to this chart.
I found this 1866mhz ripjaw memory on NewEgg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455
it is not on the compatibility list, however the 1600 speed ripjaw is. From what you have taught me, Is it safe to assume this fater memory would work as well?
AND with money being an issue, am I just throwing my money away on the faster memory? I was (dreaming) of a 4 ghz cpu speed eventually.
Thank you very much
