Well I have had enough,

Out in my garage / benching area I have been working off a 4 year old Asus net book

I simply can not take it any longer. The NIC card for one is a total POS

The Atom while it does ok, it is just an Atom. Just can't look at this hour glass any longer

So here I am having to spend money. Trying to spend as little as possible

I only have a 9 1/2" x 10" footprint for this thing to sit on so thinking mITX is just about my only option.

Uses for this are surfing, downloading drivers, and on the fly research when benching

So this does not have to be a monster, just need something that is snappy so I am not waiting on it all the time.

Wireless is a must , No GPU required and if I do decide I need one have a ton of them laying around.

Here is what I have come up with, let me know your thoughts and ideas, trying to get the total as low as possible without sacrificing speed

Thanks

You could probably spend less if you went the AMD route, since it isn't for anything strenuous, and AMD apu system would be great for this.

If you got with ATMINSIDE's idea total cost is around $330

With mine it is around $550

both ideas save you money, and will do better than the netbook you are using now.

Also, have you upgraded your netbook to have an SSD?

FWIW, look for an SSD that doesn't use a SandForce controller.

Hmmmm

Wow guys, Thanks for the input, AMD never eally crossed the radar

Funny as I just built an AMD rig last week for a friend of mines dad.

It was pretty snappy too as I through in an Evo

Will do some research on this and get back, thanks so much

I appreciate you guys taking the time

No problem, I would even suggest looking at the dual core AMD APUs, they are pretty snappy took, I have an A6-6400 in my HTPC and have never had issues with it.

Here is what I have so far

I know the PSU is in left field, but the cheapest fully modular I could find, it is 4 bucks more the Seasonic 500,

Reason being is the case is so small just think it would be helpful

Anybody see anything else

Personally, I'd go for something much cheaper like an H81 board and G3258 for just browsing, driver downloading, and benching research. Plus, you could bench the G3258 on one of your benching mobos if you got bored :)

wishlist.jpg

$20 rebate on PSU
$8 promo code on RAM
$10 promo code on CPU
$5 rebate on cooler

So ~$391 after rebates and codes

LOL, was looking at the windowed, but it will be out in the garage so decided against it

yea, get 40 off for the combo at MC , my pricing was with tax Included

Will check out the g0dm@n , Thanks for the FYI

It's a lower end mobo and only a dual core CPU (unlocked multi though), but if what you described in the OP is all you plan on using it for, then it will work fine.

If you want something more powerful for a potential future use, then maybe spend some more money on the mobo/CPU.

yea it is for what is described, I have a 24/7 rig for photo editing/gaming and all that.

Just need something in my benching area that does not show me the hourglass to load a screen shot or start Outlook

I installed a G3258 in a Z87I Deluxe this weekend, and I used it for a day as I was swapping out hardware and reinstalling the OS on my main system. It worked well for browsing and getting drivers/software for my main system's mobo swap and fresh OS.

Any of the systems suggested will work, I tend to get cheap for everyday browsing/email/doc PCs :)

EDIT: I'd probably go for one of g0dm@n's SSDs as well since they're $10 cheaper.

Not extreme enough IMO...

Z97-Impact
4790K
Corsair H100i
Corsair 250D
2x4GB 2133 CL11
GTX 970
Seasonic SSR 650
512GB Samsung EVO
1TB WD Caviar black

Come on Witchdoctor, we all know you're an "extreme system" kind of guy. You have a 5960X in one of your rigs. How can you tolerate anything below a Haswell quad core even for web browsing? Nay I say!
