So i have an msi h110m pro vd plus with SILICON POWER 8GB DDR4 2400MHZ GAMING (prebuilt pc) and after 2 years (now) i wanted to upgrade my ram but the only option i had is to get GOODRAM DDR4 8GO 2666MHZ (i couldn't find a better one in my country cuz 2400mhz ram doesn't exist anymore for some reason) so when i put the old one in the 1st slot and the new one in the 2nd slot they only work at ram speed of 2133mhz (Keep in mind that with the old one only it works at 2400mhz no problem so i don't think it's the motherboard is it?) and if i enable XMP it only detect 8gb of ram !! Then i tried switch the slots then the XMP option is completely gone from the BIOS and still working at only 2133mhz (again if i put the 2400mhz ram only it works at that speed with no problem which should mean the MOBO supports 2400mhz )

What i'm trying to do is downclocking the 2666mhz ram to 2400 so i changed the settings in the image but when i set DRAM frequency to DDR4-2400mhz (18x100.00x1.33) wich is the only 2400mhz option it only recognizes 8gb of ram!

please help!!!

The setting that is not clear in the image : - DRAM frequency: DDR4-2400mhz (18x100.00x1.33) 92948693_555893325050828_7942449335617191936_n.jpg.42d4761550b3da56f36c14c3e5be1163.jpg 92979436_222671349071459_2428534982021480448_n.jpg.d872c9591fb898b002a8dc0dc3120e9c.jpg 1935712790_Annotation2020-04-14171310.png.6d6221821a8a8c0f5ffcb79df0f2f076.png 476486580_Annotation2020-04-14171334.png.edb814eb6d36b5a2d3165e5f3c7c44b0.png

Mixing and matching RAM isn't generally a good idea... wonky things/instability can happen. You'll notice, however, that only one stick has an XMP profile while the other is JEDEC...maybe that is the issue.

That said, proper slots for two sticks are typically 2/4, not 1/3. Confirm in your manual.

You may have to set things manually. 1.25V and 18-17-17-39 timings for 2666... 1.2V for 2400.

Something doesn't add up here. The stated motherboard model only has two RAM slots.

Never heard of the GOODRAM brand. I wonder if it's any good?

What happens if you put only the GOODRM stick in. Do things work? Try it in both slots without the old RAM. What frequency do you get?

If you're only seeing half of the total amount, I wonder if there is one is single rank and the other double rank of if one is one-sided RAM and the other is two-sided RAM, high density vs. low density RAM or some difference like that which could cause incompatibility.

When i put the goof ram stick alone it works just fine and i can down clock it 2400 no problem but when i add the other one it only recognizes 8gb

There has to be some kind of incompatibility issue going on with that GoodRAM stick when coupled with the older stick. As ED said, it's never a good idea to mix different brands and speeds of RAM. I wonder if you got another stick of the same GOOdRAM if it would work right?

What country are you in?

i'm from tunisia and tha twas the best ram tha ti could find :/

going to add that the rams work fine together at 2133 with dual channel and when i install the good ram alone it can hit 2666 with xmp but when i disable xmp and put DRAM frequency on auto it runs at 2133

try manual settings as was suggested earlier by EathDog. I would first try the 2400 as that is the lower spec and then if that works you could try to get 2666.

ED I'm guessing that you assumed it had 4 slots from the CPU-Z tab reading "slot 1" and "slot 3"

i did manual settings check the images maybe there is something wrong ?

Same thing :/ this is exactly what's happening

physical memory at 8gb :(

Exactly..... :)

Run it at 2133.. :)

You aren't losing much performance at all, really.

So at 2133 mhz you are using all 16gb?

Are the two kinds of RAM rated for the same voltage at their full advertised frequency?

Then go with 2133 mhz. Like ED said, you won't see any noticeable performance difference. Apparently, the bios has figured out that the only common ground for those two modules to coexist together peacefully is 2133 mhz. It's what was negotiated by the bios.
