My brother ordered:
Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) Vengeance Red, DDR3 1866MHz, CL9 (9-10-9-27), 1.5V
CML8GX3M2A1866C9R

And he has already:
Crucial 4GB Ballistix Tactical, DDR3 1866MHz, CL9 (9-9-9-24), 1.5V
BLT4G3D1869DT1TX0CEU

Question is, Is he able to put Corsair memory on Dual channel and Crucial to be single?
Or should he only put Corsair on dual channel and sell Crucial?

Thanks!

Sometimes you can get away with it, but a lot of times there are problems. No posts, blue screens, etc. You may have to give up some speed in MHz, or timings, or both. Sometimes you need to add voltage sometimes you don't.. Its a crap shoot. Clearing your cmos by pulling the battery can help, sometimes it doesn't.. You wont know until you try :D

What's the model of board? If it's a triple channel board, try installing all 3 modules w/ the timings manually adjusted to the Corsairs looser 9-10-9-27 settings. Or if the board supports Flex Mode w/ 8GB in one channel and 4GB in the 2nd channel, POST will probably report something along the lines of "Flex mode" on startup, and CPU-Z will indicate Channels # "Dual" and DC Mode "Symmetric" with 3 x modules installed.

Yeah I've mixed before in the past with DDR2. It works, but top limit of the ram and the speed of the ram can be affected because of the size of it (4GB to 2GB sticks). Really not recommended and as mentioned sell the 2GB sticks :)
