My new build isn't up to par.

Hey guys, I built a new computer a couple weeks ago and went through a couple hardware changes since. I don't game, video edit, or overclock. I just wanted a new higher performance computer for my daily use. I don't remember if I had any performance issues before the hardware changes but afterwards, I've been experiencing 2 second freezes on programs every now and again, it's not too often but bothers me when it happens. I've also experienced certain programs taking a moment before they load. It's nothing huge I suppose because don't get me wrong, my computer is pretty quick but I don't know, it just doesn't seem as fast as the amount of money I put into it, ya know? And I've had custom builds in the past to use for comparison.

I'm just looking for some advice on any issues that can be fixed.

If you make hardware changes after building from scratch it is usually a good idea to do a complete OS reinstall. When you switch out hardware without doing a clean install, you are opening yourself up to driver or other conflicts. A clean install is probably what you need, just backup any data you don't want to lose.

EDIT: I should also say that I can't see your links because I am at work.

I actually did exactly that this weekend. I'm running off a fresh OS install right now. Sorry, I should've included that.

I agree with the clean install also please use the inforum ss hosting tool. Some people cannot or do not want to click on outside links. It can be found in advanced posting window, and clicking on the paper clip.
How to add pictures.PNG

Can you host the pictures on the forum please?
Also, can you post a screenshot of HWMonitor?

I tried at first but the system specification files are showing invalid format. The CPU-Z file is in html and the Speccy file is in it's own snapshot format.

I just uploaded the OCCT report images though. Here they are...

Oh my god, my computer just had like a 10 second freeze. Worst one yet...

I'm not sure. I've been hearing hardware noises recently coming from the case when it is working a little hard though. I'll have to listen a little more closely when another freeze happens.

Is there a storage drive in there? If so, what are the make/model/age? Also, how full is the SSD?

What hardware did you change, and have you replaced it with the older hardware to see if the problem goes away?

I certainly would do some extensive malware scanning with a number of tools including Malwarebytes.

@ trents
I just ran a full system scan this morning before I left for work. I'll update you with the results after work.

@ Dlaw
I have my OS on my nearly brand new SSD which is a bit over halfway full and my storage drive is a WD VelociRaptor 300GB 10000RPM which is actually very old and only gigs away from being completely full.

Are you and Silver_Pharaoh thinking that my old and full storage drive are causing performance issues?

I'll have to try removing it and seeing if that fixes my freezes.

And also, about the older hardware. What has actually been going on is this. My recent hardware change is mainly me putting my water loop in but upon doing so, I ripped the cpu out the socket when removing the heat sink. I had 3 bent pins that I put back in place. After the water loop installation, I didn't have any performance issues that I knew about, stress tests ran fine on the cpu but I was still worried about it and it was easy enough to get a replacement so that's exactly what I did. Once I got the replacement though, I installed it and got a BSOD minutes after boot. I've switched the cpu's back and forth a few times trying to notice a difference but it's nearly impossible to tell. I finally went with the new cpu because well, it's newer and no previously bent pins. I've received another BSOD on it since then though, so I reinstalled my OS this past weekend and I guess here I am now. I haven't had any BSOD since my fresh OS install, just these quick freezes.

Do you think it would be wise to do a fresh install on the older cpu with the previously bent pins? Or were the BSOD's probably just from the hardware change in the system before? It is a tough call because I don't remember if I had any freezes on the old cpu.

And also, you guys really that worried about my outside links? I mean it shows where they are going to be taking you. At least check out my Speccy one so you can see my full list of system specifications, it's published through their website. I won't be able to take a screenshot of such a detailed list like that.

I'm not personally worried about them, I just can't get to them from work and therefore can't assist as much.

I understand. I'll have to get some screenshots for you guys after work then. I'll try to get some from speccy and then hwmonitor for atminside.

Mainly, we don't like links because it adds extra work for those helping you. Just much easier for us if those pics are staring you right in the face instead of clicking back and forth. Using Snipping Tool in Windows Accessories to crop and capture the images.

Yeah, it's all good. I understand. Here's screenshots of speccy and hwmonitor. If you still can though when you get home Logan, check out my original Speccy link, it provides a lot more. Same with my CPU-Z report.

EDIT UPDATE: I'm really starting to think that my system hangs are more software or OS related rather than hardware. I've ran so many diagnostic tests and everything seems to pass fine. I've also figured out my issue with programs taking a few seconds to load up or show a splash screen. I always use Rocketdock for all my software shortcuts and use it over the start button 100%. Just recently, I suspected it being an issue so I stuck with the start button and loaded programs up that way, tried just about all of them and they splash screen almost instantly without delay.. Do you guys suspect most of system hangs and performance issues to be software over hardware related?

I'm going to try running Sandra burn in suite to stress test every component.

UNFORTUNATE UPDATE: I have been still trying out things and it seems that this program called AI Suite from ASUS which came with my motherboard wants to have a fit loading up every now and again.

I think my performance issues are getting worse. My typing right now has a poor response time while typing this. It's like when your typing fast on an older computer and your typing doesn't keep up with your keyboard, all of Firefox is running poorly right now. This is a nightmare...

No, I'm thinking something is accessing your hard drive and the hard drive has to spin up first, causing the delay..

Did you run Malwarebytes yet?

Yes, no threats found. I ran ESET Nod32 as well and no threats.

The build looks overkill to me, lol. ;)

Can't see why it would be slow, except for a bad SSD or HDD.

It's not slow. It just has random short software freezes.

My main concern at this point is to just rule the issue being either with the hardware or the software and at this point, it sounds more software related, correct?

you have swapped cpu's?
if so reset the bios to default, cpu's differ one to the next.

as you get close to filling a drive, the poor thing has a lot of searching through stuff to put a program together, windows is very sloppy and just writes stuff everywhere.
if you hear clicking, this is a good sign of a failing hdd, it's the sound of the little arms flailing about smashing the heads that read the disks into things.

remove AI suite, it's known to cause great grief and many grey hairs.

Couple things

1) remove ai suite. Does nothing for you
2) edit
3) check your drivers and make sure your ssd has the latest firmware
4) m5a97 or m5a97 le?
5) run memtest
6) make sure your bios is up to date
7) benchmark your ssd
