sure a spreader like this with just fins could be made but wouldnt be as effective and would require much more machining and wouldnt be able to be made out of a sheet.i picked this route to cut down costs.

Well some ideas aren't that easy to make DIY but once you have proven with industries and technology it may be just few simple moves and your part is done.
Like milling, drilling<machining your product> it may not needed just use a mold and bamm you product is done. RULE #1 in successful making business is *look always big*
