An external that I actually own. It stays in the drawer though since I find optical drives a mere nuisance. Keeping in mind I am on 100Mbit fiber, so anything I NEED I can just download and throw on one of my many thumb drives.

As for how it works, you just plug it into the usb port, that's all there is to it.

That unit is $30 on Amazon through Amazon's Marketplace. So just add that $30 to the build if you want the external.

If you use a lot of disks, it may be more beneficial I suppose to grab an internal drive, but I find disks to be a nuisance personally which is why I moved away from disk drives.

Yes, then you will need to connect a sata cable and power cable.

You would use one of the sata cables provided with your motherboard and the power cable would come with your power supply.

Win 8.1 bro. All the way. Add Classic shell if you want it to run like Win7. Takes 3 minutes to configure.

Use Win 10. It's free. No guarantees on stability though.

I got a DVD-RW LedON or something for $10 from newegg, EOM packing.

Though, now it is $20 -$7 with promo. I found it via pcpartpicker using filters.

I wouldn't go with 10 just yet because in April when it gets released you'll still have to buy it and you will have stability issues with it seeing as it is still being tested and changed.
