Hi,

well I am going to build a new HTPC shortly (soon after core i7 is released to take advantage of the (hopefully) dropped prices of quad cores)

I will use it with a 40" Samsung a656 TV and I will use it for gaming and watching dvds, Hd-dvd and blu ray. I will have a 2nd monitor elsewhere in the room for internet browsing etc.

I will be using Windows vista home premium (I see no reason to get ultimate, although am willing to reconsider if there is a valid reason) 64bit

I will also get win dvd 9 for blu-ray/HD-DVD playback.

Case:
Antec Fusion Silver - I will replace the PSU and fans that come with it

CPU:
intel Q9550 - I will hopefully overclock this to 3.4ghz

Memory:
ocz 8gb

PSU:
corsair HX 620W (will this be quiet enough?)

motherboard:
I am hoping G45 will be release here in the UK soon, if so 1 of those. I have currently listed Asus P5E-VM G35, how is this as an alternative to the G45 boards?

Heatsink:
scythe mini ninja - I will run this as a passive heatsink, ie not attach the 80mm fan
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-012-SY

thermal paste:
arctic MX-2 - any better to get?

case fans:
replace the 2x120mm fans in the case with 2x scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM (any other better super quiet fans?)

Blu-ray/HD-DVD drive:
LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader & HD-DVD ROM
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-074-LG

I already own a 8800GTS 512mb video card, an X-FI Fatality soundcard, a 36gb raptor HD and a 200gb seagate HD

as said above, I am hoping to get 3.4ghz from the CPU while still keeping the system as cool and quiet as possible.

thoughts, opinions? thanks in advance

i dont think that, the processor will be in good condition running off passive cooling even at stock settings. I would take extreme caution in overclocking it on passive cooling.

hmm, it isnt really totally passive, has a 120mm fan ~10mm away:

thats how it will look, I would think the 80mm fan would do more harm than good along with bringing more noise.

if this is still not enough, what other heatsink would you recomend? (Bear in mind I am very limited by space id say the sythe mini ninja is as big as I can fit) This was the heatsink I was recomended when I asked in the cooling section. I looked into watercooling but I just cannot think of a way to fit it in the case
