I would like to get in the race as well. Anything special I need to do Adak? Or is it only for a certain group?

It's for EVERYONE! The more the merrier, absolutely! Friends, neighbors, acquaintences - EVERYONE!

Care to join us in a folding race in May?

Care to join us in a folding race in May?

Sure! I am new to this so I am still not sure what I am doing. eg After installing the client I found out that I am running it as classic instead of the SMP:) If you have any hints/info please let me know. Thanks.

I am currently running the client on my Desktop and my unused netbook so hopefully I can rack up some points :)

What version of the folding client did you install? Did you get a passkey yet? <==Very important!

I did get the passkey and I did put in the team number (32). I downloaded the SMP client but I didnt run the right commands I just opened it which defaults to classic. When this job that I am running finishes I plan on restarting it with SMP and getting the GPU client as well. I figure that my computer can be doing something while I am under utilizing it.

Got the passkey - good.

We don't have an SMP client, though. We have several clients that will handle the -smp flag, however. 6.24, 6.34, and 7.1.48 are popular choices. Does sound like you got the one of the console version 6 clients. For those, you need to add the -smp flag. Is that what you have, a console client (not a Windows client)?

The client I linked to above, (7.1.48), will try and select the most productive client for the rig it's running on. If it's unsuccessful, we can adjust it for smp folding.

Ok thanks I will check that out.

I have another really stupid question: If you ^c the running program will it restart or will it pick up where it left off?

The F@H Clients have checkpoints (defaulted at 15 minutes) to save progress.

I used advanced options and set my checkpoint to 3minutes.

Careful with low minute checkpoints... It ups the chance for when you "ctrl-c" or accidentally kill your comp or client in the middle of writing a checkpoint, that it will corrupt the WU and you will lose all work... I learned the hard way on a 300k point bigadv on my last rig... At 98% 2days in!

15min default is perfect

Quick question, I have a 7 million step WU right now, I'll be done tomorrow night, how many points would this be worth?

I am not familiar with what projects have what amount of steps, but if you know the project number, go here and put in the minutes and seconds it takes to complete it:
http://linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php

Lastly, in the T32 super sticky, there are links to monitoring programs that do just that for you... In fact, our team is graced with the presence of Harlam... The author of HFM.net (folding monitor)

Hey guys,

I joined the F@H team a few weeks ago and just realized there was a thread for it :p

Anyways just wondering if I set it up ok I have both my GPUs running a work load and I get about 1835 cred for each WU is that about right? takes about 4-5 hours to do it.

Also how can I get that sweet F@H banner bellow my name? :)

:welcome: RealMadrid12!

(I was just watching the highlights of Real Madrid's latest game).

Sweet Banner:
click on User cp tab, right below "Forums" tab. Kind of small in size. Then, "Group Memberships".
Folding team is about 1/2 way down that page. Join the group, then click the "Update Display Group" button, near the bottom of the page.

That should do it, but I am rusty on this, so keep your fingers crossed! :D

For questions about your gpu folding, please start a new thread for it, in the main portion (not this thread), of our folding forum.

And you'll want to tell us what make of gpu's you have (and the system they're running in), and what the projects are that you're folding in 4 hours or so.

Without that, we're just guessing.

Go to the log file, and copy/paste the very first 100 lines or so of the log.txt file, for that 7 million step work unit.

That sounds like a "rogue" work unit, that has too many steps, is why I'm asking for the info.

If you highlight the text you're pasting, and then click on the # icon in the advanced editor window, we can study the output far easier.

(It forces the forum to maintain the original format and use scroll bars when needed.) Otherwise, it all gets turned into left justified html display hash.

Ah thank you very much you were spot on!

I will post up that info tomorrow

@SkyChotik, I asked about the size of this work unit (wu), over at Stanford's folding forum. They have recently moved into some larger projects, and this may be one of them. I'll post back what they advise, here:

If you have any more problem with it, please start a new thread about it, in the main folding forum, so it gets the attention it deserves. The newcomer thread is not visited for problem solving, much.

I changed over to v7 and put my name, team number(32), and passkey in but it looks like all of my recent work is just going to team 0.

Does anybody have some guesses about what I broke? Googling did not save me  This usually means I've ignored an instruction.
