Hello.
1 year ago i bought one stick (512M) of Corsair XMS C2 (rev 4.2) for my Abit NF7 2.0, and it works perfectly at 400 mhz with 2-3-3-6 timings, and up to 460 mhz with 2.5-3-3-6 (maybe higher but i'm hitting the fsb limit).

A couple of weeks ago i thought 'time for 1GB, dual channel' and went to the store and came back with another (identical?) stick. Not quite identical, as it shows rev 5.2. After turning on my system, the stability was horrible so i decided to test the new stick alone... It doesn't work at CAS2 / 400 mhz, tried from 2.6 to 2.9 volts (all the settings allowed by my board); it doesn't work at CAS2.5 / 400 mhz regardless of the voltage (going above 2.7 makes things worse it seems). Only works at 400 mhz with 3-3-3-6 timings (actually i've set tRAS to 11 as my board performs best with this setting) and ONLY at 2.7 volts, anything lower or higher gives me errors after minutes/hours of Prime95. Also, i cannot get past 420 mhz even with these crappy timings...

Obviously i'm very disappointed of the new Corsair stick (cost me 90$, and i could have bought no-name ram for half that price and have it perform better), and i'll try to return it next week... But i'm wondering what could be causing that behaviour? Incompatibility between the new revision (i heard it uses ProMos chips instead of Samsung chips used by the older revisions) and my mobo? What else should i try? Test the problem stick on other motherboards? Try a modded bios for my MB? Thanks in advance for any advice you may be having for me! (and excuse my English - it is not my native language).

it could be a compatibility issues, the memory chips most likely are from different mfg'ers.

i would suggest your return the stick you just bought and sell the other stick here in the classifieds. then purchase yourself a proven pair of sticks from the classifieds here.

and your english is very good, better than mine and i was born here.

shoot, i just noticed your in romania. ebay???

Can anyone reccomend me a modded bios for my NF7 v2.0 that has the ability to choose CPC:disabled (or 1T / 2T memory timings)? Thanks.

cpc on bios = 1t
cpc off bios = 2t

look at the sticky "sens massive nf7 ...." theres a few bios's there for generic memory like yours.

personally i use the abit flash menu to flash my board instead of a floppy.

try it out and update your success in this thread :)

Used FlashMenu and Trats d27_619R2_2T. Still no go at CAS2 / 400 mhz, but i am able to reach very high fsb's at 2.5-3-3-11 2T. I'm running now at 240 fsb (480 DDR), both sticks of Corsair installed ... just passed Memtest86 a couple of times at that speed and it's Prime95 time :)
I'll keep you updated.

I bought the same mem from newegg in dec. I dunno what my rev on the sticks are but although they run cas2 they wont clock for nothing. Max stable I could get was 202 1 or 2T on a a7nx8-e dlx. Previously I was running 230 1T with 2x512 PC3200 ValueSelect @ 2.5-3-3-8.

Thanks for your reply. Been running fine for over a month at 235 (470 DDR), 2.5-3-3-11 timings, CPC off... No luck at 240/480, gave me errors after a few hours of Prime95. Anyway, it's time to upgrade... again ;)
