Opteron 242 or athlon 64 3000

both are about the same price, i was thinking of the desktop versions, not to much oc'ing i guess. but simply which would be better for my games and apps in the background? ill have a gig of pc3500 ram, any real performance difference? i dont want to have to look through the long thread to compare,,, please let me know,

Athlon64.

The Opterons require pricey boards and memory. They aren't designed for mainstram usage.
