I've seen some use, but for short benching sessions, not for 24/7 cooling. And you still have to cool the hot side of the pelt.
 
Thanks for the replies.. Thought newer chips were more power efficient. I found this video and never thought of doing this.. Completely unrelated, but really cool.. No pun.

Well, in some cases they are, but you're still looking at an average between 75 and 100 watts. Looked into them a few years back, and like Knufire said, you're still going to need some other form of cooling. Only this time, if I remember right, you're not only trying to get rid of the heat from the CPU, but heat that builds up in the TEC chip itself.
