EDIT: Can someone move this to the correct location for a build log. Couldn't see it initially. - Thx

Starting my first real custom loop for a bench rig. Haven't decided on a case yet for multiple reasons so for the time being its going to live on plank of wood. I like the access this gives so it may turn out to be a longer term. Apologies for the state of the photos, i only have my phone and i'm generally poor with photography.

So here's the kit i'm going to use.

Plank of wood, MSI gaming 5 Mobo, XSPC Waterblock, 2x 128GB SSD (Raid 0),2 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance (1600Mhz)

D5 pump, XSPC Photon Resevoir, fittings tubing etc.

XSPC AX360 Radiator, 3 x vaspar SP fans for push, 3 x XSPC AF Fans to pull and fartblaster of course...

Damn, image posting is confusing......

Forgot to add that it will be based on an i7 4790k, with an i5 4690k (Although possibly already fried) and G3258 on standby

Hope to do some work on it today so more photos later.

Undercoated the plank of wood & made a space for the PSU.

Mounted the Mobo to check placement before final "paintjob".

Added 2 x SSD in RAID0 and installed Windows 7 to check all is working ok. Had to re-add stock cooler temporarily.

Next Steps,

Paint plank of wood (Black or probably red, i haven't decided yet)
Mount SSDs Nicely
Add watercooling
Put nice carry handle on it

I'm also going to perform some benchmarks on it now and at each stage of its evolution. Going to put some much sexier RAM in it over the next few days. Will post up BMs tomorrow.

Hooray!!

Arghhhh, completed a bunch of benchmarks on it last night. Powered down and now it doesnt want to power up again.

RMA time i think, I have a gaming 3 i can use in the meantime. Will get onto it tonight.

That sucks. Any decent runs? Do you bother with HWBot at all or do you bench just for fun?

I've been submitting my 4690k results onto HWBOT with some small success. But that's my 24/7 machine.

Was planning on this 4790k being the sole purpose benching rig. I have 2 Mobos in RMA state now. Lets see if i can kill a third.

I didn't submit any results this time around as they were going to be my starting benchmarks for the whole project. I was interested to see the gain i would get after each stage.

I'll get a working rig sometime tonight and do them again.

Edit: Actually having thought about it i am going to submit the initial results this time. Hwbot is a better repository then my spreadsheet.... I can see the evolution there just as well.

Ouch. Careful with them settings and that your gear has adequate cooling. Being out in the open isn't necessarily great while making sure you have good ground and have decent amount of airflow. Intel stock CPU coolers are the worst when it comes to OCing.

oh Yeah... maybe i was trusting it too much. But at least i haven't fried the CPU. just got back in from putting the base back together again, also after an unscheduled wood painting....

I really haven't figured out how to be selective about images yet, but at least i'm not hiding.....

Did a set of baseline benchmarks as planned tonight. A few of them failed and i got a surprisingly good result on one of the GPUPI tests, so these need further investigation, but they're all on hwbot and my spreadsheet.

I did a bunch of 3D ones as well but not having a dedicated graphics card installed didn't produce the best results of course.

Will retest again after memory change, then hopefully i'll get it watercooled and a solid OC on it before the weekend is through.

Memory upgrade. Just noticed a 1500 in the serial number as well which indicates Samsung ICs i am informed.

Another set of Benchmarks tonight then.
