Fixed. I have an HP case with, apparently, non-traditional cables. I used a different cable for the power on/off pins and that worked, even though my LED power button light isn't working.

I recently purchased this motherboard and a new Intel processor for my computer.
I installed the motherboard and everything works fine except for trying to turn the
machine on. When I connect the cord from the power button to the pins on the
motherboard, the computer comes on, but goes back off after a few seconds. The
power button is unresponsive. If I touch the connector to the pins long enough for
the machine to start up and immediately remove it from the pins, the computer
stays on. I have never heard of anything like this, so I'm completely baffled. Any
input would be greatly appreciated!

Some HP cases have non-traditional front panel pin headers, most need to be rewired a little before they will be compatible with a more traditional/generic off the shelf board.

You might need to get in there and make sure the wires are in the proper places... it almost sounds like a light or something is plugged into the spot where the power button or reset should be.
