Interesting to know, I was under the impression these cards had a tendency to get pretty hot pretty quick.

Nope. Especially the aftermarket cooled cards. They do get hot but the fan never has to spin up all the way. They put the extra fan headroom in there for people who want to overclock the living hell out of the GPU then run Furmark for 7 hours to torture it.
