I see no reason to go to an AIC since he has an optical port, honestly.
We don't know for sure if it would help, for one, and it would affect airflow to the GPU, secondly.

Had a similar problem with a friend M5A99X EVO. Took the whole system apart, and reassembled, problem was gone. Go figure...
