I thought the high-end Asus ROG series had the X-Fi onboard audio.

I know their x58 ROG micro-ATX version does.

That's not an actual X-Fi. It's the X-FI MB software running on top of a realtek card. It's the closest thing to the perfect "lipstick on a pig" example I can think of.
 
well i am still undecided. i will just go with one if i can afford it when the time comes.

If you are very picky with sound quality then you may want to get one. But for me as I'm not too picky with it has found the sound quality from the on-board to be quite sufficient comparing to my friend's rig which he put in an Auzentech and I don't hear too much of a difference in sound quality. And if there was, it wasn't a big margin.
