Upgrade for Phenom 9950 quad core 2.1 ghz

I'm looking to upgrade the video card but folks were pointing out that the CPU might be a bottleneck. It's an Asus M3A79-T Deluxe mb and supports AM2+/AM2 45 mm. I looked on Ebay but I don't know if something like:

AMD Athlon II X 4 3.0 GHz Quad Core 640 Processor, ADX640WFK42GM, AM2+ / AM3
or
AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Socket AM2+ AM3 Processor ADX630WFK42GI

would work and/or be better. They're only $30 to $40 so if it's significantly better then it's maybe worth it.

You could put pretty much any PII /thuban in that board
Those are slightly better cpus with a bit more Overclocking headroom. I would lean more toward a 955be or a 1090T but the prices on these are high right now.

$58 shipped for the 955. The mb revision is 1.01g so that's ok but the bios is 0602 and will need to be upgraded to 1303. . Ok, got the 1801 bios and the upgrade utility, thanks for that link. Now to decide about the cpu. Compared to the video upgrade, this is cheap.

Well judging by the age of the CPU, you probably need a gpu as well but one thing at a time. You'll see quite a difference with the 955

Of course I'll also have to put in an SSD.

If your 9950 is running at 2.1 GHz there is a problem somewhere. That particular X4 should run at 2.6 GHz.
