Lots of the parts were free to me.

This should be a viable system for years at 1080p

Plan to do a mild 4.2ish oc on it with the turbo of 3.9 should be fairly doable.

Not bad all told.

Should last a couple of years at 1080p, yep. :)

That storage though... no SSD these days is leaving that 'feel' of a fast system on the table IMO.

Yep, spend $35 on a 250GB SSD for his boot drive at least. A 500GB SSD is around $60 and 1TB SSD can be had for $100.

Sorry yes i do plan on a 250 boot drive minimum

Just edited the list i forgot that PCPartPicker didnt have the correct mobo listed. I actually got the workstation model which from what i have read is as good or better.

The fun begins, mobo came in last night. I installed the 3960x and 16gb of gskill ripjaws 1600 ram. I will pull out the case and 1250 psu today and post more pics.

I think the setup would look better if i put the gpu in the 2nd blue pcie slot or 4th slot down, but i dont know if this is feasible. Would give me more room for the hard tubing and just look cleaner overall. Is there a downside to doing that?

What are the speeds of the slots? It shouldnt matter if it is 8x bandwidth... though you'll be losing a couple percent regardless I'd guess.

I have a very similar setup that I use as my main rig. Same MB and CPU and similar RAM. I like it. I have no worries about it driving future software as long as the parts keep working. The OC is probably not going to be of much use but we are an OC forum so.... game on.

They blue ones are both 16x slots this board will run triple if not quad sli.

Got the stuff i have mounted and a bit of the wire management done.

You could get some combs for those power cable extensions, they're inexpensive and add a lot to the appearance imho. Looking pretty awesome otherwise, your son is lucky :)

The extensions were given to me i need to know who made then cause i need a 8 pin pcie cable, he gave me 2 6 pin ones i need a 6 and 8. I planned on getting some seperators.

Recieved the msi seahawk with a ekwb waterblock today and put it in.

Gotta get a matching red 8 pin pcie extension cable, those factory cables look terrible.

FYI. I'm not sure that you meant to post a picture showing your address in a public internet forum. Middle picture, bottom left.

Oops no it wasnt on purpose but maybe people will send me good free parts :screwy: i just set the gpu on the box it came in a snapped a pic.

I have the gpu extensions ordered and some combs for all the wires.

The pcie extension cables and combs came in yesterday, will install them on tuesday.

I know 2 240mm and 1 360mm radiator is overkill what would actually be sufficient. I will probably still put all 3 just to make the loop look more impressive for my son.

Peebs, how old is your son? I get the impression you are enjoying this too much, hee, hee!

I do not know anything about workstation mobos. A question out of curiosity. Is it better for have 8 sticks of 2GB RAM over 2 sticks of 8GB RAM? or even 4 sticks of 4GB RAM?
