Depends. In your situation where you have a nice roomy case with plenty of extra bays for hard drives, probably not any benefit for local pc use. However, if you need to share data between PCs (say one at home and one at work) then it provides a fast and portable solution. The e-SATA drives are much faster than the old USB 2.0 external drives. But now we have USB 3.0 which is essentially as fast as an internal drive.
