Was looking at the doomed LGA1156 and 1366 sockets, and figured I'd look at the longevity of the AM3 socket... Is the next AMD architecture going to use AM3?

Right now its a toss-up. No one really knows, and I would be willing to bet that not even AMD is sure at this point. One thing is definite- the Phenom II X6 will work in AM3. Its also less sure that it will only work in AM3 and not AM2+... much to the joy of people who already bought into AM3 for upgradeability.

Thanks for this answer - I might just get the 1156 for now, since I am not even sure what will happen with any of the sockets. I have a good deal on a 1156, otherwise I probably get a 965 platform..

Thanks
