Basically I plan on OCing my 720 to about 3.5Ghz and I would like to add a 2nd 4890 to my setup. Will my PSU be enough?

Here is my total system!

-ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX

-HIS H489F1GP Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit

-Xigmatek S-1283 Heatsink and fan

-CORSAIR 650W

-AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz

-OCZ Platinum 4GB DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

-Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM

You won't have much headroom but your Corsair should just be enough. Their known for exceeding thier ratings and are very solid and reliable units

That Corsair 650W will handle your system overclock just fine. Good luck with the OC.

There not going to be a debate in PSU section like the one you see in AMD section where that question originally arisen , corsair is more then enough .

He will have plenty of headroom .

650w can handle dual 4890s and an i7?!
i am surprised lol.
i just REALLY don't undertsand why there are 1.5kw PSUs these days then...
...and there's not many people with a system that powerful.

well 2x 4870x2, 4 GPU's, you should have ~1kW PSU

2 GPU's, ~700W is fine...

Really a 650 can handle 2 4890s? I always thought with the system in my rig I would have to upgrade to a more powerful psu if I were to ever do crossfire or sli.

Its enough... But one and overclocking EASY.

IIRC, the HX620 was quite under rated. Not sure about the 650TX though. But 50A on 12v should handle o/c quad and 2 single GPU cards.

I remember seeing a review where the 4890 draws less power idle than the 4870, and loaded it was ~20w more. TDP of your processor stock is 95w, and OCed it might add another 40w tops. TDP of a stock 4890 is 190w.Looks well within the range of your PSU.

2 4890s OCed ~450w
x3 720 OCed ~130w

I calculated that and it came out to 48amps. Whats the 12v amperage on the psu? This is also the worst case scenario for power draw, and Corsairs are usually underrated.

hitokiri, The 650TX is rated at 52A on the +12v rail. I think the OP has just the right amount for the proposed system. It will be doing a fair bit of work, with not a huge amount of headroom, but it should operate just fine.
