I have an asus A8V with a 3000+ in it. I overclocked it to 250FSB and the system boots fine. Windows loads and I ran prime95 for 20 hours with no problems.

I just tried decompressing a large (4gig) file and I get errors. I am using a sata hard drive on the promise controller. I installed windows on a IDE hard drive and I got the same problem.

When I dont overclock the computer, the file decompress's fine.

I have corsair XMS ram

what happens when the FSB is 200Mhz? Do you still get the same problem? I believe the Promise controller will be affected with FSB (HTT) overclocking and the VIA controller is not. Try using the SATA on the VIA controller.

Welcome to the Forums Mate!

I would disagree with empt563. My experience is to the contrary. PROMISE is more stable than the VIA. What I suspect to be your problem is that your system is not truly stable.

Please read this thread very carefully and take appropriate measures.

Also, disable any game/IEEE controllers you are not using.

Hope this helps,
