I'm assuming the black wires are - and the white are +. Those are the wires for the start and reset button by the way.

It does not matter. A switch needs to be closed, that is all that matters.

Generally speaking the black wires are the grounds (-)...Most cases are setup that way to the best of my knowledge.
I always connect everything that way by looking at the motherboard or manual to see which pin is + and which one is - and connect them trying to make sure everything is correct.
On the power switch Super Nad is correct...It really does not matter.

The only one that mattered for me was the HDD LED. The power and reset could go either way.

It matters on the LED, because it is a diode. You don't want to reverse bias an LED.
