Hello,

I am upgrading from the an e6550, 4gb pc2-6400, 8800GTS 640mb system, and would like to lower my costs where possible. The computer will be mainly as a home office PC, but I will occasionally throw a FPS game (e.g. TF2) on the pc, and do not wish to have a sub-par gaming experience. Please give me your feedback on what I have selected so far; I have been out of the loop as far as components go. Also, I will not be overclocking for the time being (I will in the future should my demands increase.)

Please let me know where I have incompatible/inadequate/overkill parts. I am contemplating keeping my 8800GTS as it plays TF2 fine. I have the LianLi PC-7b mid tower case. I have a 1080P monitor, an SSD, 2 WD 640mb Blacks, Keyboard, mouse, SB-XiFi Platinum and headphones. Budget is ballparking $500, but can flex that to $700. I have a feeling that I am buying more than I need.

Thank you for the feedback.

Regarding the PSU, I understand that my setup will work with a 500-600w PSU; however, I am debating the HX750 due to it being fully modular and the 7 year warranty vs the CX's 3 year warranty. Aside from the modular preference and the increase in cost, can you foresee any problems with using the HX750? Would the CX series be able to handle overclocking and adding a second GPU? I understand that wasn't what I asked for, but I would like to know how much room the hx750 would allow me to expand in the future (within the warranty period, of course).

Regarding the Samsung Ram, is there anything noteworthy about that choice? Granted it's lower in price, but Newegg marketed it as "TechPowerup's editor choice." I didn't know if the price was the justification for the recommendation.

Thanks again!

There are also available TX650M that are cheaper than HX and also modular. 5 years warranty.

These samsungs are cheap but good for overclocking so they get awards here and there.
1600 11-11-11 at stock but can run @2133 10-11-11 1.5V or something near.

Does microcenter change their prices on a regular basis? I checked the price of the 3570k and asrock board a few hours ago, and since then the price on the motherboard jumped $40. Is that normal?

Microcenter, usually has a combo deal on that processor and mobo. It's been that way for some time, I'd be surprised if they ended it. If they did they will probably start it up again soon.

They run a combo deal that's $40 off any Z77 board and the 3570K, but you only see the price reduction when you put both in the cart. I'd go for a better PSU than the CX for dual cards in the future, the 650M that Woomack suggested is an excellent choice.

Probably just some night time maintenance or something mucking with the price, it showed full price for me earlier (like around 3am) but back to $94 now.

Yea, just snagged the mobo/cpu combo and will pick it up later today. Thanks for that recommendation!

As for the Physx card, I am unfamiliar with what that entails. Would that improve what my 8800 can do?

I am getting anxious waiting for my other components to arrive. Would my current PSU (Corsair HX 520w) be able to safely power up the motherboard, cpu, and old video card? Or do I risk damaging the new parts?

You could run that setup on a good 300w unit. Your current PSU will handle it easily.
Not a problem.

Ok thanks. If I add the 7850 GPU, would i still have enough or be calling it close? I'll probably opt for the new PSU anyway due to the warranty and my desire to buy things I don't need, but at least I can set things up early.
