Go for the MAXTOR,
They make the highest quality hard drives.
(especially the more recent models)
Also the fastest :D

I hear that the new ATA-133 drives are faster than FAST!
At leat for IDE/Or you could go SCSI but you need lots
of $$$.

Can i get an ata 133 card that will plug into a ata100 board so that it will support ata133? im thinking about getting a epox 8kha+ddr (in about 24hrs) so is there a better board> or a bios update?

I have seen one somewhere...
What you are looking for is an add-on ATA-133 Controller Card.
It plugs in an available PCI bus, I will see it I can find one.

It would look something like this:

Maxtor = highest quality= isn't that an oxymoran?
imo go for the IBM

No it is not an oxymoran!!!
MAXTOR IS HIGHEST QUALITY,
I have done hundreds of tests on all hard drives...
EVERY TIME - MAXTOR WAS THE BEST!!!

IBM came in second...I would stick to MAXTOR,
The performance is unmatched, especially on newer
drives.
(Just make sure you dont end up with a Quantum)
-Maxtor Merged with Quantum/Some Quantum drives remain,
and they put them in Maxtor packaging.

Thanks a lot!:D
Any noticeable performance gains? Would the PCI card be slower than onboard ata100?

the ATA-133 add-on will most-likely be FASTER!!!

...Just put it in a PCI bus that is shared with the onboard
controller/or better yet, a PCI bus that is not shared!

yo!
i just bought MSI k266 pro, which truly rocks!!!
it has this D Bracket thing, which makes the setup a breeze...
it has RAID as well, USB2, bla bla bla...
well, wanted to buy EPOX, but it didn't have RAID...
if it has RAID, it will save me 100 bucks on the RAID card.
anddddd...i bought a ata133 HDD...of course the MB cannot support it yet, but it sure can run and it's not bad...
cya!

Thats an Idea!

I am not sure we are ready for 133 comtrollers now that
I think of it. They are very $$$

But having the 133 hard drive & getting a board with onboard
ATA-100 RAID IS COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only con:
- onboard controllers tend to lack in performance compared to
add-on cards

You can always get the controler later when more become
available. There is not many around right now!

Does Yman work for Maxtor or something? The IBM 60GXP Deskstar harddrives are about the best for performance, quietness, reliability, and are extremely overclocking friendly. Maxtor makes good drives, but every hardware review I've seen, the IBM comes out on top. Admittedly, I have not seen a review of the new ATA133 Maxtor drive, but the new IBM 120GXP series drives are supposed to be even better than the GXP60 series. Yes, I've had both Maxtor and IBM drives, I like the IBMs better. Hard to beat the Maxtor no quibble warranty though. I might wait a little for the ATA133 drives to get the bugs worked out, besides, it cost more for the controller card and it uses up another PCI slot.

Does Yman work for Maxtor or something?

Thats the Stupidest thing I herd in my life ~ I work for YTEC!

- I have tested the Maxtor 133s, They DO come up to the top
- Maxtors are more reliable & thats FACT - No one can deny that!
- Maxtors have had The best performance of any drive I tested,
I tested 163 drives other manuf. drives new & old and 37 maxtors.
- As for quiet, yes the older models are noisy, but the newer ones... you cannot even hear!
- If you havent known/reliablility & sound is what maxtor is known for

I did say however that IBM did come in second, however by a
small amount maxtor out-performed IBM.
- I have burned some of those drives and most burnt out, no
maxtor burnt out however!

One thing however, Maxtors are sensitive to continuous
overvoltage/undervoltage.
Seagates are as well.
...Seagate came in last.

I will try to post some of the scores in a few minutes

Acording to storage review only ide drive faster is the western digital with huge cache and then only by a smidgen. They pick the maxtor because the western digital is really expensive for the little extra performance. The tes was done on ata100 controller rather then ata133 controller as well.
