how well will the HD 6990 run doom 4 on medium to high settings at 1080p screen resolution? i have the chance to snag an amd 6990 for 100 us dollars even and right now i run a 750 ti. now i know there are newer and better cards from both amd and nvidia but im on disability so i have a fixed budget because i get paid only one time a month and its a fixed payment from the government any how

my screen res is 1920x1080p and i usually play my games at medium to high

the 2 games i play right now that my 750 ti is horrible at are doom 4 and the witcher 3 both unplayable with my 750 ti

rest of my specs xeon W3565 cpu at stock settings and 16 gigs ddr3 ram psu will be 800 watts to power said card

Have you checked the Classifieds here at OCF? There are some better cards for less money there.

The 6990 will be worse in my opinion, Its a very old card and the optimization might be much worse, Plus the HD6990 needs 375Watt while the R9 280x needs 250Watt and runs much cooler. You can get the R9 280x 4GB VRAM while the HD6990 only has 2GB VRAM.

Wait, Pardon me, The R9 280x is 3GB not 4GB, But its still more than 2GB.
Why am i saying the HD6990 is 2GB and not 4GB? The HD6990 is a dual GPU, Dual GPUs dont share memory and work only with their memory (I dont know how to explain it properly), And that means that there is only half the memory really available to use (Which is 2GB of VRAM.).

Yeah its much better than the 6990, Also more future proof (DX12, Still supported, GCN.). Tough get one with a good cooler (Not the reference one) And prepare for some noise cause these cards get really hot.
I have a R9 270 and it runs amazing with the games i play , Its about GTX950 Performance, And i think it can run Doom4 On Ultra 30-40FPS.

What is your budget?

A RX 480 or a 1060 do a great job@1080p. Might be worth the 100 extra for a GPU that will last a couple of years at this resolution.

You are aware that his (and my) link shows Ultra settings at 49 FPS with a 280x. If you are good at medium, those numbers will obviously be higher.

Perhaps consider saving money across two checks for a more significant upgrade which will last you longer... 3gb isn't much these days and already put you behind the 8 ball with vram and horseppwer.
