cd roms not ready?

i cant seem to figure out what im doing wrong here.
i have a
asus p4g8x deluxe, and my cd roms arent working. they were and now they are not.
running win 98 se .
i have my hard drive plugged into the blue plug by itself.
the 2 cd roms plugged into the primary.
when i open my computer icon, it shows 2 cd rom drives, but when i click on them it says device not ready.
i have power to them and it says when i click on properties that the devices are working fine.

any ideas? what did i screw up?

I had a similar problem on one of my older pc's, try disconnecting the IDE cables from the cd-roms, rebooting into windows (can remove their drivers too at this time or before initial shut down), shutting down again, reconnect the drives again, then boot into windows and see if they are working right again. I did that, and it worked for me.
