Hello I am new to the forum and I'm looking for some people to criticize my new computer build. I'm using this computer mainly for some mild gaming, like WoW, Half life 2, Oblivion etc. Going to be recording music in my studio at home also so I'd like a nice computer built around that.

All prices are Canadian.

looks good, i wouldnt spend the extra $$ on the wifi version. also think about the 640 purchase. the new gen is coming and prices will drop. you might want to think about a placeholder.

Thanks, I've heard that the G.skill were supposedly a really good type of ram so I went with that over the OCZ, have you had any experience with the g.skills?

@ ryanmartini

What 640 purchase? I also won't be spending the money on the Wi-fi, but I was thinking maybe downgrading from the 8800 to something else until the price drops, then I'd pick that up when its cheaper.

$150 for 2GB is pretty expensive, i'm sure you could get it cheaper somewhere....

also the corsair hx520 would be an adequate PSU too.

edit its CAD sorry :O

Well the ones I was looking at I couldn't find on tigerdirect only on ncix and those are the only two Canadian sites I know. Maybe I'll go for the OCZ.

I have the HZ's, since my FSB wall is 375, I can't tell you how well they OC

*I got those mixed up with the ones on Newegg.

that is what i am talking about. i went with a 8800gts 320 on a good deal i found. i know people will want a good card for less come a few months from now when mass upgrading is going to happen, so Im keeping it till then :)

Another option is the 8600gts , good placeholder as well.

I heard the 8600 and 8800 gap there is a really noticeable slowdown but they are both D10 cards right?
If so maybe buying the 8600 for a good price and then buying a 8800 after a major price drop wouldn't be so bad.

it is a good option. The 8600 GTS is a nice budget card when overclocked. It is a real beast of a clocker when it is cooled with aftermarket cooling and pencil modded for vcore and vmem.

ive seen 1ghz core speeds doing this.

i do think however you could get a larger return on a 8800gts 320 if you find one prices nicely.

Well it's usually hard to find a good price in Canadian dollars the closest I could find it the 432 dollar one. Not sure how much the 8600 is I'm guessing around 350?

I should probably learn up how to overclock and maybe I could save a bit of cash :p
