Hi, I've quite new to PC's and all and having assembled my own pc I now want to start getting the most out of it performance wise. I've just got a Geforce 2 Ultra card 64mb DDRand have with software (geforce yweaker) overclocked it to 265 Mhz core and 475 memory ( it was 250/450) anyway I ran a 3D benchmark which says its at it max settings. However, I've seen these cards go higher but with cooling system, and the reason I'm posting is I don't know how you figure out what fan you need, how you get hold of one (are they specialist?) and how I can find out how fast the card can go? Also where the extra fan would go and how to install it?

Loads of Q's I know!!I would be most grateful if someone could help me outas I'd prefer to trust someone who's actually overclock a geforce card before rather than mag advice etc.

My system spec is

1.4 Ghz Athlon Thunderbird
ECS K7VZA Mobo
384 Mb SdRam
Geforce 2 ultra 64Mb video
Codec 97 on board (sound)

Thanx!

Dan

You forgot to mention wether you've upgraded to the latest (and most compatible) Nvidia drivers or not.
Having the newest drivers will make a significant performance difference in everything you do.

Usually you figure out what cooling to go with from your budget and willingness to buy/mod...I dont know of a chart or something that shows the relationship between cooling and OCing. For the fan, people usually use a Thermaltake Crystal Orb or something of the like, though some have jury-rigged 1U rackmount HSF's to their card. Also, a case fan (usually 120mm or maybe 92mm) mounting on the side panel, blowing in on the video card and pci slots helps a lot

You can check out how I modded my GF2U, and the performance it got me here at the O/C main site.

That OC lasted me about a year and a half before the card succumbed to termal O/C sickness. ;)

Now I'm pumping out 10K 3D Marks with a $160 card. Go nVidia! =)_)

GEFORCE 2 ULTRA

Thanx guys that helps a lot. Also "Captain Slug" yeah I have got the latest drivers from nvidia.com, v29.32 or whatever it is

you shouldn't always have the latest drivers when you have an older card because the newest are optimized for gf4. I have a gf2ti and it runs best with the 23.12 drivers, and is quite stable as well.

Purely out of curiousity, who made your GF2?

Mine goes to 300/515 with the fan and ramsinks it came with, but that's with one of those exhuast blowers rammed in its face.

Presently its at 280/500 for comfort, and no modding necessary.
Good luck finding the ceiling.

As for how to attach fans, I recommend rugged sticky tape :).

Yeah mines a chaintech too. I'm gonna have a play with it soon.....so hopefully I won't mess it up too much! Thanx for ya help guys!

However, it seems to run at different speeds to ecveryone else which is odd, guessing it was one of the first released or something. I got it off a guy on ebay you see

Mines at 320 and mem is at 490.

Its an OCZ Titan Ultra....the retail heatsink's fan is removed and a larger fan has been dropped on top..but I havent actually replaced the heatsink..no time..no motivation.

I can set the memory higher but I start getting slight visual defects on screen..especially when I type..so 490 is where it stays.
