Ok in about a month or so Ill be able to build a new PC of my dreams, Id like to keep is in the 2000-3500 range so help me out as I'm out of the loop with some stuff.... Going to go with a Intel build I believe, since I've read so much about how good they are.... going to use my existing case Cooler Master Haf 932 w/ a red & black theme & wc basics already in my possession.

CPU - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz $314 Newegg

GPU - do I get a 6970 or try and find a 6990 or go Nvidia ? I got like the Evga's 580/590 that come with a water block on them already. Remember I will have to get a water block for also so need that advice too. I got no idea what the best is no a days... It has to be a good step up from the 4870x2 I got now.

Sound Card - Will use existing Asus Xonar DX2 as I love it.

SSD - OCZ Vertex 3 Series 120GB $284 Newegg

A couple questions that will help us out:

What do you plan on using the PC for? 8GB is 99% of the time more than enough, 16GB is used by .1% (or less) of the population, and I would say would be overkill and would be unneeded stress on your CPU's IMC.

The MIVE-Z is a fantastic board, but is generally for the super-enthusiast. You would be be able to get the same type of clocks with a board that is over $150 cheaper (like a Z68-Deluxe or something of that sort).

For the video card, you have a couple options, and a question to go with it -- what resolution will you be gaming (I assume you will be gaming with this PC). If you want a strong single-gpu solution the best card at the moment is the GTX 580. If you are going to be water cooling I'm not sure if there is a waterblock for the 590 but that could work (it would put a ton of heat into your loop though that you will need to cool down). The 6990 would be the same way, of course.

For the SSD I wouldn't look much past the Vertex 3, size is up to you, I think 120GB is just fine.

ok ya ill be gaming with it.... MW3 and BF3 both are coming out so Ill be playing both. I play Blackops now at res 1920x1200, so will be in the same res I believe. I run dual 24in monitors.

I know 16 gigs might be over kill but I kinda like the idea of it but if it will cause stress on the rig i don't want that either.

I may not be a super enthusiast but make no mistake ill clock the crap out of the rig to get the top speeds from it.... reason I picked the Extreme over the Deluxe was the color to be honest.... I know i read that they are almost the same boards in a lot of ways. Also the extreme has 4 pcie slots over just 2 for the Gene, also most sata slots & bluetooth.

Ill be using the basic same loop in my sig with 2 res and a rad you still think it will be hot, i got a duel core card right now and its runs just fine.

There is no way that rad will dump the heat you are going to put to it with A 580 (or two) and that cpu..

Also, I keep seeing MW3 and thinking Mech Warrior.

Also Also... Why do you have two reservoirs?

ok I can upgrade the rad, what do you recommend..... got 2 res because I had a bay and got a tube for cheap so put it in also.... no real reason except for looks.

What exactly are you trying to water cool. I'm not proficient enough in this stuff to recommend too much, but you'd need to figure out your heat load, then figure out how to dissipate it.

You should read the stickys in the watercooling section.

For 1920x1200 you won't need really more than a single card. I have 0 issues with my 580 driving any game I throw at it at 1920x1200 at highest or darn near maxed out. For that reason I don't see any reason you should get a motherboard that supports quad-sli unless you plan to do some heavy benchmarking (and if so check out our benching team!). But if you have the money to blow then I say go for it. I would check into what other people use for a 580 water-cooled (how big/many radiators).

understood bro will do but why if you don't got the knowledge automatically assume my rad wont cool it then.....

gotca, I got a triple sitting here so I can add it in and I'm sure a triple and double will be enough but I'm checking with the water guys just to be safe about it.

I had SLI 580s in there. Overkill, and I'm not sure if that much raddage would be fine for SLIed. For a single 580, it's plenty, nice and quiet.

hey just thought of something, I want to out put videos to my 52in tv.... so can a 580 handle that with no issues?

Also I've talked to a few guys and they think that the triple & double rad is more than enough for the 2600k & 580, so that is worked out.

It came free. :chair:.

It might make a nice bonfire?

The raddage is more then enough for one, but not quite enough for two (I had two in my build, but one is PLENTY powerful for you). It will handle the TV fine, cards only care about resolution, not size, and 1080P is 1920x1080 which is normal.

Over raddage is fine anyway because that means silence :D.

ok so as we know all 580's aren't equal.... so the hunt is for a good one. I kinda like the Evga's Hydro Copper one to be honest..... but guess I need to do some reading about them still.

The Hydro Copper isn't the greatest block from what I've heard. Take this with a grain of salt, but I think I read that it's extremely resisting, but gives extremely good temps.

The thing is most full-cover blocks are designed to fit reference cards. If you want a "better" 580, it's most likely a triple-slot ASUS or a MSI Lightening, which I believe are binned for better overclocks. However, in conjunction with the binned chips, they're not reference PCBs and such. If you want a full-cover block, you can't really get a "better" 580. You might get lucky though, with a full cover fitting on a non-reference.

EDIT: Here, EK is planning to make a full cover block for this card, which is binned. The block isn't out yet though. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...-ASUS-GeForce-570-580-GTX-DirectCU-II-monster
